PAGE SIX FORT GEORGE HERALD FEBRUARY 15, l9l8 Captain and Mrs. Brown left here on Tuesday for the coast. William Blair left for Quesnel on a buBiueos visit early in the week. The splendid new school house, on the corner of Hamilton Avenue and Sixth Street, opened last Monday to receive pupils. Neville Montgomery, barrister, has moved his offices from their old location on Second Street, between Thapage Lane ana Laselle Avenue, to the Close & Brown building. Captain Poster drove the stage on the last trip, relieving Al. Young, the veteran driver, who is ill. Captain Poster left on the starboard side of the forward bridge, conning the vesHel himself by the aid of his headlight. A new site for trap shooting haB been selected by the South Port George Gun Club, on the low ground south of the Hudson's Bay Company's post. The necessity of abandoning tbe old site, was owing to the building up of the residence district In that section. Russell Peden and S. S. Magoffln, who have been vfsitlng Mr. Magoffln'a contracts up river, returned here this week from Mile 172. Mr. Peden drove his teams up the tote roads, between here and the upper river camps, and states that these roads afford good travelling. W. B\ Nugent, assistant superintendent of the contracting firm of, Simms & Carey, arrived in town this week from Mile 53, the end-of-eteel. Mr. Nugent drove through the entire distance, over 250 miles, in a cutter. He is the first man to drive to South fort George from the main line of the G. T. P. The boxing program in the Fort George Theatre last Saturday evening provided a good evening's entertainment for lovers of the sport, and was well attended. In the main event, ten rounds, George Allen vs., Jack Davies, Allen won handily, his superior weight proving too much for his plucky little opponent. The contest ended in the sixth round, Davies' seconds admitting defeat by throwing \in the sponge to save their man from a knockout. The first preliminary between Anaell and Howard, was a hummejr, Referee Campbell rightly called it a draw. Curly Hunter and Jack Cronin were the other preliminary artists, and Cronin won by a mile, though it was rather a tame affair. The entertainment was staged under the direction of Professor Billy Morris. A commendable feature of the past two entertainments under the professor's management here have been their freedom from anything objectionable or savoring of rowdyism, and while this continues there can be no fault found with the clean sport. GOOD BOXING BGUT FOR 17TH MARCH Final arrangements for a bout between the heavyweight fighters, Savoy and Sheridan, were made in The Herald office on Wednesday last. All differences were smoothed aside by the assembled fight fans, and it is announced that the bout will take place in the Port George Theatre on March 17th., St Patrick's Day. The terms of the contest are to re-Bult in seventy-five per cent of the gate receipts to the winner and twenty five per cent to the loser. Training expenses will be allowed. Sheridan holds an amateur record of champion of New York and Boston. He insists that it be understood that hiB winnings in the bout will be donated to charity, as he does not intend to enter the ring except in the amateur class. • He fights for the love of the game. Great interest Is exhibited in the event in sporting cHelen, as both men are known as clever boxers of the first class. The only detail of the arrangements which has not bo far been complied with Is the covering of a 1500 bet on Sheridan, placed by' bis backers. CHURCH SERVICES.
