FORT GEORGE TRIBUNE Saturday, August % 1913 MILE 142 WILL BE END-OF-STEEL POINT It Now Seems Certain That Road Will Not Bo Completed Beyond That Point Thin Winter. It now seems fairly certain that the "end-of-steel" point this winter •will bo Mile 142, where the Grand Trunk Pacific line has to cross the Fraser. Steel has now been laid to Wlie 138. While high officials of the G. T. P. - Lave stated, and still state, that Bteel will be laid to Fort George from the east this winter, it is generally agreed by the men wn the work that this is an impossible feat in railroad construction, as a great deal still re mains to be done, including the building of two bridges across the Fraser. The distance from Tete Jaune Cache to Fort George, on the line of the railroad right-of-way, is 184 miles. Tete Jaune Cache being Mile 53, B. C, the distance from Mile 14 2 to Fort George is 96 miles. With the railroad completed to Mile 14 2, the transportation problem as affecting Fort"George will be very much simplified after the opening of navigation in the spring, as it will be possible to skip a great deal of the shallow upper Fraser and land goods by- rail at a point witii good steamboat navigation to Fort George. COMING IX NEXT SPRING ' J. A. Ijooppky, of Hubert, Sask., Sayn Many . People From His Dis-i tiict Will Come Here. lA visitor to Fort George at present is J. A.. Loeppky, of Hubert, Sask., who is spending a week here loqking over the general situation. Mr. Loeppky, who has been watching Fort George for two years, tried to; come here by way of Tete Jaune Cajche last aumer, but reached the Cache only to find that no steamers We're running. He states that it is his intention to [return next spring aa a permanent resident. He will bring in a stock of {builders' supplies and go into the contracting business. Many people in his district, he says, have their eyes on Fort George and will be here as soon as the railroad. | INSPECTING FARM LANDS William Plummer, of Langdon, S. j D .,WiU Look Over Holdings West of Fort George. iWilltam Plummer, or Laugdon, North Dakota, was in town this week. He represents seventeen people from his home town, all of whom have purchased lands up the Nechaco valley, between this point and Port Fraser. He is on his way to cruise this land and report. S' Mr. Plummer came to Fort George via Edmonton and Tete Jaune Cache, travelling to Mile 129 by train, from there to the Grand canyon by steamer, and from the canyon to this place by gasoline CLOSE GAME LAST WEEK Baseball Match Results in Score of 10*0—Tie at End of Eighth.
