Montreal, Sept. 20.—Jaim-s Kohh, millionaire railroad builder, died hero today of heart dlsuaae, n'ttor a two weeks' illness. He was 65 yearo old. Mr, Ross was one of the dwindling group of railroad builders whoso names wore linked with tin; construction of tho Canadian Pacific. Ho waa born In Scotland, came to America in 1868 when he was 20 yearn old, was Identified in his early career with the Wisconsin Central, und on coining to Canada was appointed first chief engineer and afterwards gen-oral manager of the Victoria railroad. At the age of 35 Colonel Ross wan entrusted with the difficult tank of building the Canadian Pacific went of Winnipeg. Two years later he had completed the line over the Rocky mountains, Selkirks and the Qold ranges. On completion of thin task lie wus givon the contract for the remaining portion of the line and built It. During the last 20 yearu Colonel Rons was Interested primarily in traction, power and mining operations. Mr. Robs was In a china of half-retired financiers. He founded his fortune on rock bottom which he dug down to himself. He started as a contractor hi Winnipeg in 188 3. Previous to that he had been an engineer He it was who put the Canadian Pacific across the prairies, the Rockies, the Selkirks and the Gold range. Not content with that he came east and tackled the problem of locating the line from Montreal east, through the state of Maine and down to tidewater. . Till?
