SHAWN O'SULLIVAN Pro career begins TORONTO (CP) — His prospects for a pro professional ca-reei sweetened by the help of Sugar Ray Leonard, Shawn O’Sullivan officially sheds his amateur boxing status tonight •when he tangles with American Vint Hammock in a six-round welterweight bout. One of Canada’s brightest stars on the amateur scene the past few years, O’Sullivan embarks on the sport’s often-rocky r"oad towards a world crown less than two months after his heart-breaking loss to American Frank Tate in the Los Angeles Olympics’ light middleweight final. One of the few true gentlemen in pro boxing circles, O’Sullivan received a tremendous boost of confidence last week when another of that ilk — Leonard, the former undisputed welterweight and World Boxing Association champion — came to Toronto to help O’Sullivan prepare for the fight. Leonard is a valuable asset for O’Sullivan in that he has seen Hammock fight, something O’Sullivan has not. "Going into a fight blind is nothing new to me,” said O'Sullivan. ‘‘You do that all the time as an amateur.” Apart from what Leonard described as Hammock's ‘‘very unorthodox” style, O’Sullivan will also be fighting a severe case of the jitters when he enters the ring with his family, friends and hordes of fans in attendance. Hammock, a native of Orlando, Fla., who fights out of Charlotte, N.C., brings an unimpressive 6-4 record into the Harbor Castle Hilton hotel ring. At a pre-fight news conference last month, Hammock warned O'Sullivan had picked “too tough” an opponent. The fight Is at 6 tonight on The Sports Network (cable 16). If you're one of the many Canadians who buy Canada Savings Bonds each year, you'll want to make plans for your next purchase now. But when you do, check the bonds you already have. You could be holding bonds that have already matured, or will this year. If you're unsure, check them against the following... Series 1 to 26 and Series 29 have matured. Bonds from Series 1 to 26 (issued before 1972) and Series 29 (issued in 1974), have already matured. Canada Savings Bonds, like all bonds, do not earn interest after maturity, so check to see if you have some of these matured bonds. The series number and maturity date are printed on every bond certificate. Series 27 and 30 mature this year. If you hold bonds in either of these series, they mature this coming November 1st. On that date, Series 27 (issued in 1972) pays a maturity cash bonus of $397.50 per $1,000 worth of bonds. (There was also an interim cash bonus of $202.50 per $1,000 worth of bonds payable on Series 27, as of November 1,1979). For Series 30 (issued in 1975), you will be entitled to a maturity cash bonus of $282.30 per $1,000 worth of bonds. Re-invest in the new series starting October 24th! Keep your money working for you. Check if any of your Canada Savings Bonds have matured, and think about re-investing in the new 1984/85 bonds. They'll be on sale starting Wednesday, October 24th. Further details will be available shortly, in this daily newspaper or wherever you bank or invest. scorecard FRIDAY HOCKEY Peace Cinboo Junior Williams Lake 5 Spruce Kings 2 SATURDAY HOCKEY Peace Cariboo Spruce Kings (Williams Lake 3 VOLLEYBALL lliftl whool (iris Colltft lleijhli loumament Final D P.
