GTP changes passenger service The grand trunk Pacific Railway Co. announces the following changes in their passenger service, effective June 11: number one will arrive at Prince George Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., leaving 8:45 p.m.. Number two will arrive at Prince George Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., leaving at 8:45 a.m.. Number 91 will arrive at Prince George Wednesdays only, at 1:30 p.m., leaving at 2:30 p.m.. Number 92 will arrive at Prince George Sundays only, at 6:30 a.m., leaving at 7 a.m.. Trends number 91 and 92 will not carry mail or express, but will carry passengers. Timber Outlook Victoria According to a report submitted to the Minister of lands on the Cranbrook Forest District, it is estimated that the timber cut for 1916 will be in the neighborhood of from 150 to 160 million feet. In 1913, which is the year in which the largest cut was made, it amounted to only 108,000,000 feet. Practically every mail is running or will be shortly. Optimism concerning the timber industry is general. Will open new colony in Salmon River District soon A new colony in the Salmon River Valley District of British Columbia will be open by the provincial government on June 30. The grand trunk Pacific Railway Co., on which the colony will be headed, is now arranging for excursions, which will be commenced shortly. Large numbers of Easterners are expected to settle in the new colony, which will consist of Mennonites. This is sufficient for 101 homesteaders. Germans, however, will be excluded. Already for cars as settlers' effects have arrived in the city. Other cars are now on the way, and according to exports received by Railway officials here above a there is likely to be a considerable rush for homesteads. The settlement will be officially opened by the provincial government on June 20, at the government land office, South Fort George. The lands, which will then be available for homesteaders, our level and more open than any now available in British Columbia. The country is rich in all kinds of green grasses, it being possible the harvest three crops of alfalfa yearly. Settlers to take up homesteads this year will probably devote their time to clearing and possibly some vegetables will be grown. Next year, however, mixed farming is expected to be taken up and developed to a considerable extent. It is proposed to take up settlers of different nationalities, facilities being provided for them to come from all parts of Canada, but it is possible the large numbers will be Mennonites.
