A man believed to have been Dan Martin, better known as "Red" Martin, a trapper from Dome Creek, committed suicide shortly before five o'clock on Tuesday afternoon by jumping into the Praser from the railway bridge. The man had been noticed standing on'the bridge, immediately over the main channel of the river, but there was nothing in his actions to create alarm. No one saw h:«i make the fatal jump, but he was noticed In the. main current by F. J. Johnson and James McLane. after he had risen to the surface, but he was then beyond aid. Dan Martin had spent several days in the city recently stopping at the McDonald hotel. He is believed to have brought considerable money w'th him, and in addition made a sale of $160 worth of fur to Ivor Guest. He later made a purchase of a hat .from Bruce Parker, and this was found securely tied to the railway bridge at the. point from which the man made his jump uito the river. That trouble should have been taken to tie the hat so securely is taken as evidence cf the desire of the man to make his identity known. When the police were notified of the suickle they made a careful search of the banks and the bars in the river, but failed to recover the body. A.* the river is rising and i's current is increasine !n strength the body mnv be carried down-stream a considerable distance before it finds a lodgment. Altogether eight numbers were rendered, four on each half of the prooram, each being en-thusiastiically received. The vocal soloists for the evening were Mrs. A. M. Hutchison. Mrs. W. J. Pitman.
