Board To Study Timber Industry Here VICTORIA — An exhaustive enquiry into all phases of British Columbia's logging and lumber industry with special emphasis placed on development of new methods and fire protection will be undertaken shortly, Premier John Hart has announced. Hon. A. W. Gray, minister of lands, the premier and members of the government will discuss this investigation with interested parties with a view to appointing a competent board of inquiry from whose findings and recommendations it is hoped to establish a long-range policy of protecting the lumber industry. Timber protection, reforestation, small wood lots, salvage of debris and many other factors will be inquired into and reported upon. Pay Fines For U.S- Cigarettes WINNIPEG—Possession of goods manufactured in the United States, on which Canadan duty had not been paid and unlawfully trafficking in foreign exchange brought fines to three men who appeared in Excise Court here. ¦„ One was fined $75 lor possession of cigarettes, cigarette papers and razor blades. He said he bought the goods from a United States soldier. A second man was fined $50 for having 1000 American cigarettes, and the third was fined $10 for unlawfully acquiring foregn exchange and $25 for unlawfully selling foreign exchange. G. R.
