Der-mott Mclnnes, who will be attending the annual meeting of the British Columbia conference of The United Church of Canada, members of the A.O.T.S. Merfs Club will conduct the services in Knox United Church on Sunday. Ralph Spencer, secretary of the A.O.T.S., will be in charge of the morning' service at 11.30 a.m., which will be broadcast over CKPG. A group of members of the club wiH lead the congregation in the evening worship at 7.30 p.m. The address will be given by Thos. Carmichael. Humphrey Mitchell, minister of labor, reveals that out of the six main industrial groups the highest increase over 1946 is in the logging industry. The percentage in rise in wages amounts to 1G.S, whereas in manufacturing, the largest group, it is 14.7. Substantial increases are shown in five of the six main industries, the second highest increase next to logging being 15.7 in service (laundries) forffewed by 15.3 in the mining industry. In 1946 the index figure in the logging industry was 167.4. Preliminary figure for 1947 is 195.0. General index covering the six groups is 174.1, and increase of 12.2 over the figure of 155.2 in 1946. In other two industries, namely construction and transportation and communication the index increase over and 1.7 respectively. 1946 is 6.6 Operators, IWA To Negotiate Here Today Tentative schedule of negotia ing meetings between lumber op erators and the I.W.A. on wage and union contract provision are scheduled to commence in Prince George today and an at tempt will be made to bring all Interior operators under join negotiations at some central poin to vaork out an industry-wide set tlement of I.W.A. demands for 1948. The meeting here was arranged May 1 when the union negotiators met with J. H. Ruddock, repre senting the interior lumbermen's associations. . Lumber operators In the coast egion submitted their counter proposals on wages and union contract provisions at a meeting with the I.W.A. negotiating committee Tuesday. First meeting with R. V. Stu-rt, who handles labor relations or coast operators, was featured y presentation of a statement of nioii demands which emphasized hree main points—a 35 cents ourly wage boost, the union hop and the welfare fund for the .W.A.'s 27,000 members. Coupled with this, the union egotiating committee proposed hat after settlement is reached n the major demands, the con-ract be held open and an inter-m agreement signed between the arties "until such time as a con-lusion has been reached on other ontract matters."
