Rankirr, To Present Charter At Insatllation—-Over One Hundred Visitors Expected The newly formed Lions Club will hold charter night Monday, September 12 at Dragon Lake Hall. Dr. James A. Rankin, district governor, will present the new* club with its charter and will be assisted by Frank Baldock, zone commander aand member of the Kamloops Club, sponsors of the new club. Indications point to there being over 100 present for the installation of the new club, with visitors from the Okanagan. Vancouver arid Washington State. club- will get under way with 20 charter members. John Harvey heads the charter night committee, with Paul Gauthier and Jeff Burton. Harold Box heads the membership committee and Fred Robb and Jim McMillan constitute the finance committee. Federal Building The news that the post office had been given notice to vacate the present premises on Front Street was discussed at a special meeting of the Board of Trade on Monday night. The meeting was unanimous in I approving that the Dominion gov-| ernment be urgently pressed to build a federal building in Quesnel that would house the post office and tei'egraph and telephone services for the town. President Ken Thibaudeau said, J "This news of the posjL. office I means that the time hatf'now come j for our Board to urge»the government to erect a building that will give permanent quarters for our post office, telegraph and phone services. Our population warrants such a building." Bernie Peel, chairman of the airport committee, briefly reviewed the activities of his committee jn getting action under way regarding the hard surfacing of the airport and it was decided to continue pressing this subject with the proper authorities. George Murray, M.P., was in attendance at the meeting and disclosed that plans for rural mail delivery in the district were well urvder way. A special meeting will be held this Thursday by the Board to discuss P.G.E. railway developments with top-ranking officials of the line. A presentation to Dr. G. R. Baker will be made at this meeting. Rural Schools Quonset type construction is being used in the erection of two new rural schools in the district. One is being erected at Castle Rock on the west side of the Fra- ser River south of here and the other at Alexandria-It is understood that this is the first use of such type construction for schools in B.C.. auhtority recently being given by the Dept. of Education at Victoria to the District School Board to proceed with the work. Both buildings will be open for inspection by the public before the Fall term begins. Exterior of the buildings will be steel sheets over a curved steel framework with an air space below the sheeting and a layer of fibre glass insulation. The interiors will be finished with donna-conna board with a color scheme of light green and tiled floors. H. J. Gardner Village Commissioner H. J. Gardner Sr. arrived by plane from the Coast over the week-end looking extremely fit after his recent illness. Mr. Gardner is expected to take a short rest before actively resuming his duties on the commission at. his summer home at Bouchie Lake. School Registration Registration of new pupils for the fall term will get underway Friday, Aug. 26 in the Elementary School with Dick Monk and C. G. Greenwood taking the names of the new pupils who will enter for the first time- this year. Birth certificates will be required and children must lie six years old on or before October I, 1949.
