No less than 20,000 pounds of coarse fish" were removed from this stream. Norman Creek, a Cluculz Lake tributary yielded 16,000 pounds and Cluculz Creek itself gave up 6000 pounds.. A small creek flow-, ing into Graveyard Lake in the Cluculz Lake area netted ' the poisoners 500 pounds of peamouth alone., A West Lake fish trap accounted for 1.3,045 pounds. Inspector Gill termed this year's poisoning and trapping operations a pronounced success. NEW KATCHKRY Co-ordinated with the program of exterminating large numbers of undesirable fish is a trout hatching program which officially- got under way last week whenever 200,000 trout eggs were placed in two artificial hatcheries. One, the Miworthjiatchery, has been in operation many years, but a new hatchery at Cluculz Lake is being put into use for the first time. The Cluculz Hatchery came as the result of many hours labor required to back-pack over two tons of'gravel for the purpose of making a spawning bed as near to the real thing as possible. Inspector Gill paid high tribute to the Prince George had & Gun Club whose members did much of the work, and to residents of the Cluculz Lake resort community. Unlike the Miworth hatchery Which develops its eggs in four wooden troughs, the Cluculz development is in a natural stream and for this reason - offers its .young a-far higher chance of survival to maturity. Fry hatched in the stream development will be accustomed to burrowing into gravel when danger iheatens. arid in addition there will be no loss due to transportation of fingerlings. . i When sufficiently mature to shift for themselves in open water, the Cluculz hatchery fish will swim only a short distance to reach Cluculz Lake. To increase their; chances of survival still farther", game officials will poison the delta of the creek in order to exterminate any coarse fish which would ordinarily devour the young rainbow trout" as . they sought deeper waters. . , The Cluculz' hatchery also eliminates the necessity for artificial feeding of fry after the yolk-sac which sustains them when very young has been completely consumed. Fry hatched in the Miworth hatchery will be distributed in lakes towards the eastern partrof the area. FVT. COLLINS, Secretary. Department of Transport Ottowa, Ontario, June 18, dieted that the present high econ omy of the Prince George district is of an impermanent nature. G. F. Scamahorn q£ Spokane said ;that the imperman.ence of many new buildings throughout the city reflected a lack of confidence in the present prosperity on the part of firms in business The American also deplored the amount of drinking in Prince George and said he was taking back to the U.S. with him pictures of Royal Canadian Mounted Police arresting drunks in the downtown area. Mr. Scamahorn came here hoping to purchase some real estate ^vAo enter th'e electrical business. He^said land prices were too high compared to what owners had paid for the property only a few years ago and he found too many electrical contractors already in business here. Something' he found hard to understand here, he said, was the scarcity of other Americans engaged in local businesses. Those 'High Fogs' Do Good And Bad That dense "Florida Fog" which has lj>een shrouding the Prince George district from the glory of Old Sol the past few days; welj, it is doing great good on the farms, an official of the Provincial Department of Agriculture said late last week. He conceded though that about all the good which rain can do has already been done and that the next progressive step on the part of Mother Nature would be some sunshine. S. G. Prestpn, district agriculturist, said that the moistness of the past few days' here has done wonders for district grain crops and has not done the hay1- any harm. Likewise, non-commercial gardens in the city have taken a new lease on life from the pattering raindrops and sprouts are sprouting everywhere. Not so happy over the "high fogs" of the past few days are district lumbermen, many of whom have faced operating curtailments as a result of impassable logging roads. At many opprations trucks are being hauled for long distances with crawler tractors and some cutting sites have had to be temporarily abandoned until roads dry up. .
