City PTA Plans Usable Clothing Sale April 23 I Plans for their semi-annual sale I of usable clothing were discussed when ways and means committee ' members from four Parent Teach-j er Associations in Prince George met recently. Mrs. Vivian Freeman was chosen gqneral convenor of the spring sale, which will be held in the CCF Hall on Saturday, April 23, from.10 a.m. to. 12 noon. ' Four city PTA groups, King George V, Central Fort Georg«, Connaught and the High School, are joining in sponso'ring the sale. Committee members also include Mrs. Betty Falardeau, secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. May Gosling, publicity chairman. MINT CHOCOLATE CAKE Wi cups sifted.all-purpose flour ' Va cup cornstarch 3 teaspoons baking powder Va teaspoon salt V6- teaspoon soda Vi cup butter or margarine \Vz cups sugar 2 eggs, unbeaten 3 squares" unsweetened chocolate, melted 1 (teaspoon vanilla extract 1V4 cups milk Sift together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt and . soda. Cream butter thoroughly. Gradually beat in sugar until mixture j is light arid: Huffy. Add eggs, one: at a time, beating well after each" addition. Add and stir in melted . chocolate and vanilla extract. Add j sjfted dry ingredients alternately with milk. Beat until, smooth after each addition. Turn batter j into two round, well ggeased layer , cake pans. Bake in 350 deg. F-J oven about 35 minutes. Cool lay- ers 3 to 5 minutes in pans. Turn layers onto cake racks and cool completely. Fill and frost layers with Peppermint Frosting. PEPPERMINT FROSTING . % cup sugar 2% tablespoons water - 1$ cup light corn syrup Va teaspoon baking powder 2 egg whites V£ teaspoon peppermint extract or few drops oil of peppermint. Few drops green food coloring. Combine sugar, water, corn syrup and baking power in saucepan.. Beating constantly, pour hot syrup very slowly in a thin stream into stiffly beaten egg whites. Add peppermint extract and food coloring and continue to beat u'nfil frostlng-• holds its shape. 10 EEN TOWN OPICS In the latter part of last week a pep-meet was held to outline Easter Egg Day to Teen Town citizens. From the group 50 citizens volunteered to tag for the day. Last Saturday these citizens did a "bang-up" job by making this one of our most successful pro-|ects of the year. The proceeds will help to finance the square dancers trip, to the annual Teen Town competitions in Langley Prairie on May 7. The Folk Festival this week will give everyone a chance to see the square dancers perform. The group will represent Canada in the festival. The- mayors' conference starts on-April 13 in Kelowna. Tuesday, Mayor Jim Cruickshank and Alderman 'Bev Foot will leave to attend the meeting in the southern city. There is a possibility that Alderman Walt Webster and Alderman Byron Boyd will also be able to attend thg three-day event.
