April .28, 1 955 HELIPE HINTS PRALINE CAKE Vi cup shortening 34 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 Hs cups sifted cake Hour ',4 teaspoon salt lVz teaspoons baking powder 2/3 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla \\ cup brown sugar 2 teaspoons flour 1 tablespoon water 2 tablespoons melted batter % cup chopped pecan meats Cream shortening; add granul-ited sugar gradually, creaming in til fluffy. Beat in egg thoroughly. Sift together 1% cups flour, the salt and baking powder; add to shortening mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth after each addition. Stir in vanilla. Pour into well-greased glass cake dish. Bake in moderate oven, 325 degrees F., for about 40 minutes ox until done. Cool slightly. Mix together brown sugar, twe teaspoons flour, the water, melted butter and chopped nut meats; carefully spread on top of slight!) cooled cake. Return to moderate oven, 325 deg F., and bake for 10 minutes. This delicious cake is a time, saver, for, when it is removed from the oven with its nutty topping, it can go right to the table. N. Freeman .that it may be* unsafe. Carrying out the examination of the sub-floor supporting structure is an official of Dezell Construction Co. Ltd., prime contractors on the job, and Architect Jolyon Briggs. _>^ First evidence that aTF^as not right with the floor jn the upper storey "banquet and meeting room came when a depression became apparent near the east end of the room. Prince George Parks Board forwarded a report by .Mr. Freeman to city council oiv Monday and asked that the contents he given thorough study and that they be advised if any decision was made to curtail use-of the affected portion until the condition is rectified. Mr. Freeman stated in liis report that it Was noted on April that the banquet room floor was uneven and that it was'apparent the condition was getting worse. _ He said a contractor's representative and the architect examined the floor on April 11 and pronounced it safe, although they lid'not know the cause of the depression. "Their conclusion was not satis-lying," reported Mr, Freeman, "because they did not inspect the floor joists." The parks superintendent said that on April 20 he made a personnel inspection of the joists and found two laminated timbers "working" together when a second person jumped, up and down on-the floor surface above. y Yesterday the investigatiojKof the floor structure by the/architect and a contractor's/representative, got underway.^/ On hand to discuss the situation was Mayor Gordon Bryant and parks board- building chairman Mrs^/Harold Hatch. Ma\>rr Bryant said the defect would be rectified within a few jklys. , The depression in the floor covers several square feet and is about a half inch deep. Six Soccer Squads Set For May 1 Debut Final arrangements for start of Prince George. Soccer League were made at an executive meeting held Tuesday night at the high school. Six teams are officially entered and waiting for the kick-off whistle May I, when all teams will see action at two parks. Starting time for all game§_is 3 p.m. with two of them going on at Connaught School-grounds between the strong Experimental Farm entry and the Italyanos at pitch one with referee Ray Hewlett in charge, and on pitch two the High School team tackles the Teachers with Jack Briggs tooting the whistle. •Up at Duchess Park the HB.C XI goes against the Sports Club jorman'la team with Bert Taylor as referee. All teams will be sporting new uniforms for the gala opening and a ceremony is being arranged to start things off. The league will, be played in two halves,-with the first half ending on June 12. There will be a summer"break until September 11" when play will resume on October 30. Winner of each half will play off for. the Jimmy James Trophy, emblematic of league championship.
