Here is how 17 of the station? between Jasper and Prince Ru pert derived their names. Vanderhoof was named after the late Herbert Vanderhoof, ar influential advertising agent am promoter of Chicago, 111. Through his business connections witl heads of American railways he obtained contact with officials of the former Grand Trunk Pacific and was able to influence them to scrap their plan of a station just east of the present village of Vanderhoof, which they had intended to call Nechakb, and to construct their station on property he had acquired and laid out as a town-si'te named after himself. L. C. W. Lett, former colonization agent for the Grand Trunk Pacific was asked, several years ago, to throw light on the origin of names. He stated that \V. P. Hinton, general manager, of the railroad during construction days asked Josiah Wedgewood of Wedgewood china fame to submit a list of names suitable for place names of towns and stations prior to completion of construction. Mr. Wedgewood submitted a list of his favorite English names, all picked from English towns and villages. These included Croydon, punster, Erling, Gilford, Penny, Shelly, O'tway, Minmouth, Wedgewood, Finmore, Encombc, Savory, Sheraton, Tintagel, Palling and Priest I.V. Mr. Lett named Topley in hon or of his father-in-law. Lumbering activities and farming brought about growth to some of the communities; others have remained the wilderness flag stops they wore in 1914 when given names.
