Duke Snider Is In Hot Wafer With Bavasi Again MILWAUKEE (AP) — Vice- n't seem to want to apply it to TO RUSSIA THIS YEAR CAHA Sending Team On Tour By JACK SULLIVAN Canadian Press Staff Writer TORONTO (CP) — The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association is looking for someone with the nucleus of a world-beating amateur hockey club and the financial resources to send it to far-away places. The association has just the spot for the team — the world champion- ihips at Prague next spring. The CAHA won't have long t wait. An "angel" from the Allai Tup champion Belleville McPar .ands likely will be in the wing orlay when the association' ive-day annual meeting recon venes after a one-day interrup ion while delegates went on sight-seeing trip. One thing is certain alxwt the imposed jaunt to Czechoslova lengths ahead of Lincoln Road to raise Tim Tarn's winnings to $444,565, Jones didn't say., whether Valenzuela would be aboard the colt in the Belmont. World Mile Mark Set, Or Is It? LOS ANGELES (AP) — Herb Elliott of Australia possessed a world record mile run today but there was doubt about him getting it in the books. He ran the distance in a stunning 3:57.S in the Coliseum relays over the week-end, beating the recognized world mark held by fellow Australian John Lan-dy by two-tenths of a second. There was grave suspicion that the International Amateur Athletic Federation might cast a- skeptical eye at Elliot's magnificent performance because of the pace-setting job done by an unheralded Texas runner, Drew Diinlap. Durilap, not listed on the, official program, jogged into the lead at the start and stayed there until just after the half-mile point — when he suddenly stepped out of the race. Track experts said they were astonished that officials should even think of submitting Elliott's time for consideration. But meet referee Larry iMouston implied it will be submitted. Jack Yerman, Harry Sicbert, Mayriard Orme and Don Bow-den, had a time of 7:20.9. Michigan State finished second in 7:21.4. Both times bettered the world mark of 7:22.8 by a team from Occidental College in California last May. President E. J. Buzzy Bavasi of the Los Angeles Dodgers is angry at Duke Snider again, but there is little Bavasi can do that he hasn't done before — ex~cept trade him. And, Bavasi said Monday night he is not trying to trade Snider. What's more, Snider said he doesn't want to bo traded. The latest exchange involving Bavasi and the centre fielder grew out of Bavasi's uncomplimentary rearks about Sriider's indifference and poor play. "I'm not mad at. Snider the man," Bavasi said, "but I'm mad at Snider the iball player. Such a waste. Here he's hitting .225 with only five RBIs. He ought to be ashamed of himself." "I can't understand the Duke," Bavasi continued. "He has all the talent in the world, 'but he does- y baseball. Maybe he ouught. to try something else." Bavasi made the remarks early Manday and again Monday night 'but Snider said he didn't know about them until many hours later.
