Adler Joins List Of Stage Stars Turning To Screen Sooner or later, all the "greats" of the New York stage get to Hollywood. They may resist the lure of the celluloid for a while, and their stays in the film capital may be brief, but rare is the Broadway actor who can resist the temptation to experiment in a different medium. Luther Adler is just one of the long list of stage luminaries who turn to the screen, occasionally, for a change of pace. He currently appears with John Wayne and Gail Russell in Republic's "Wake of the Red Witch," which will open tonight at the Star-Time. Adler hails from a celebrated acting clan. His father, Jacob, was a tragedian of extraordinary skill and a revered name in the Yiddish theatre. His brothers and sisters are all attached to the theatre in one way or an-Jther; perhaps the most famous s his sister, Stella Adler, who has co-starred with Luther fre-luently. Adler studied for the stage under the guidance of his parents, naking his debut when he was ive years old. When he was in iis teens he made a tour of ondan, Vienna and South Af-ica in his father's troupe and ¦eturned to make a distinguished name for himself on Broad-va'y.
