An adult polio clinic will be held in the Vanderhoof Health Unit Thursday from 8 to 9:30 p.m. McBride News Chamber Speakers Set for Edmonton Delegates to the 31st annual meeting of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce will hear some of North America's top business, government a n d chamber leaders during the three-day event, scheduled for Oct. 3, 4 and 5 at Calgary. II. Gordon Love, president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, will give the keynote address on "Canada's Future in the Changing World." Other top luncheon and dinner speakers will be Premier E. C. Manning of Alberta; James Coyne, governor, Bank of Canada; and Harvey S. Firestone Jr., chairman of the board, Firestone Tire and Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio. McBRIDE—Mrs. C. L. French president of the Ladies' Hospita Auxiliary to the McBride anc district hospital, returned after attending the convention of the B.C. Hospital Auxiliaries in Van couver. She gave a report on the convention at the regular meeting. Plans were made for the an nual collection of vegetables and produce in aid of the hospital larder. Collectors will call at homes in the district from, Sept 26 to 30. Last year's effort resulted in the hospital receiving fresh prod uce to the value of S288 and the communities of Dunster, McBride and Lamming Mills have supported the drive wholeheartedly. • • • A farewell party was held for Jim Cruikshank at the All Saints' Anglican Church parish hall recently. A presentation was made by Ken Henderson on behalf of friends. Color films of the Jasper and McBride area were shown by Bill Austin of the highways depart ment. Mr. Cruikshank is leaving for Emmanuel College in Saskatoon. • • • At the recent regular meeting of the McBride and District Board of Trade, a report was heard on the Prince Rupert meeting of the associated boards of trade. A film was shown about the Chalk River atomic station. A nominating committee consisting of R. E. Blackwood, Franklin Martin and Oscar Lamming was named to present a slate of officers at the annual meeting to be held in January. • • • Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Buck and Mr. Arlow Ground, all of Sand-point, Idaho, were here recently looking for land to be used for lumbering and agriculture. Thompson of Richmond, Indiana, plan to settle in the valley and have purchased land near King Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kropf and family, formerly of Halsey, Ore., are now living on Mountain View road. First meeting of the McBride Fair Board will be held Sept. 20 when reports of the recent fair will be heard. Pair Leave Giscome After 25-Year Stay Mr. and Mrs. Jock McLeod of Giscome were guests of honor when their many friends held a social evening in the Community Hall, and again when the Canadian Legion entertained in their honor. The occasions were to say farewell and to wish them luck in their new home in Chilliwack. Jock and Kathleen arrived in Giscome in 1925 and have taken a great interest in community affairs. Mrs. McLeod has been school board representative for the last nine years and a hard-working member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Legion. Mr. McLeod, an ardent enthusiast, was an outstanding pitcher for Giscome ball teams of the past. Their home was a picture of floral beauty. Building Reported In Rose Lake Area ROSE LAKE—A sizeable building boom has occurred in the Rose Lake district recently. Mr. and Mrs. Crowley have finished their home on Bedore Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Brokke repaired the log house on their property at Conrad Lake, and moved into it before leaving for Alaska; Butch Payne has built a new home and constructed other buildings on his property where the old Rose Lake school used to stand. The Glen Andersons have moved into their new home, and the Rose Lake hall has been finished. Roddy and Danny Payne have each built a new cabin, and Ken Payne is enlarging his home, as also are George and Wayne Humphrey. Teddy Hultkrans of Forestdale has also built a cabin in Rose Lake. The CNR has painted all its buildings. Clemrettti, Nora lee, Colleymount Report Nadina River Farmers' Institute heard a report from Hugh Shelford at the September meeting regarding the stockyards in Burns Lake. He said the repairs to the extension of the swing ?ates and water trough had not jeen carried out, as requested. The CNR promised to have the natter attended to immediately.
