never
done

my
life
No
I

kick
the
dog
or
take
some
candy
from
the
children
I
did
that
on
Halloween

horrible
truth
is
that
today

bought
a
fruit
cake
My
only
alibi
is
that
I
am
married
to
a
man
who
is
addicted
to
fruit
cake
and
mince
pies
While
olhcr
women
make
five
pounds
of
fruit
cake
for
the
Christmas
season
I
make
30
pounds
And
ccn
then
we
usually
run
out
before
the
New
Year
This
year
for
some
reason
I
have
fallen
short
of
the
30
pound
mark
so
I
decided
to
take
the
cowards
way
out
and
buy
enough
cake
to
make
up
the
difference
1
bought
two
cakes
They
were
smooth
and
moist
looking
and
heavy
enough
to
indicate
the
presence
of
lots
of
fruit
I
thought
that
he
would
never
know
the
difference
But
I
guess
it
is
really
true
that
the
proof
of
the
cake
is
in
the
eating
For
when
I
presented
the
cake
without
com
ment
he
knew
right
away
that
it
wasnt
mine
There
is
something
irreplaceable
missing
from
a
machine
made
cake
something
that
comes
from
the
little
fingers
that
slyly
remove
a
juicy
candied
cherry
from
the
bowl
when
mommy
isnt
looking
something
born
from
the
inaccurate
measuring
of
spices
because
the
phone
rings
right
in
the
middle
something
that
comes
from
the
extra
generous
amounts
of
butter
and
eggs
we
use
on
this
oncc-a-ycar
baking
splurge
and
the
long
slow
cooking
that
is
probably
not
considered
efficient
in
a
modern
cake
factory
And
the
spicy
sweet
aroma
that
fills
the
house
and
prepares
the
palate
for
the
first
still
warm
cake
adds
its
own
spice
to
the
eating
And
when
a
person
starts
buying
Christmas
cake
you
never
know
where
it
might
lead
Next
year
I
might
not
feci
like
going
to
the
trouble
of
hauling
a
tree
out
of
the
bush
and
instead
go
and
buy
one
of
those
glittering
tinsel
trees
and
cover
it
with
blue
lights
and
call
it
a
Christmas
tree
And
the
next
year
after
that
I
may
decide
it
is
too
much
trouble
to
miss
that
party
and
stay
home
with
the
children
on
Christmas
Eve

it
leads
to
that
