10 THE CITIZEN MAGAZINE Friday October 29 1965 Li LnJ VJ L5 with PAT NEALE fTlA i tHl 1 i vy r wJk 7f 7f THE LOLLYPOP DREAMER S The children of Prince George are really very very nice with just a couple of exceptions Maybe you have met one of these exceptions in person A greedy child isnt too nice to know and bad behaviour is remembered for a long time Everyone hopes that the greedy ones will not spoil Halloween this year and the fairies will be watching carefully for spoilers The fairies teach children in a very special way Tommy lives in Prince George and he knows all about it You see once upon a time he was invited by the fairies to Lolly Pop Land An invitation to Lolly Pop Land comes to children as they dream in the night This is of course an enchanting place to visit Tommy says good children love to go there as there aie so many wonderful things to see but naughty children learn a lesson there Even Tommy blushes and says he stopped being greedy after visiting Lolly Pop Land Once there he found a number of exciting and pretty villages The roads are all cobbled with hard white peppermints and the houses built of candy too Bus stops there aie big red lolly pops standing upon black liquorice sidewalks Its lucky it never rains there how sticky it would be Beyond green meadows yiimmy chocolate roll trains chuff by and the toffee trunked trees they pass are laden with every colour of candied fruit imaginable Visitors like Tommy quickly discover the most important thing about Lolly Pop Land Every wish made there HAS to come true This is a delightful surprise for happy guests but sometimes it dismays the greedy ones For every time a child wishes he had all the candy fruit on a tree to eat then he has to eat it As you know greedy chilrdren often wish and ask for things taking them too although truly not needing them The fairies noticed Tommy did this Now he knows better Probably because once he spent all dream time iust eating bv himself in Lolly Pop Land while others played and had lots of fun nearby He kept wishing and wanting and HAVING This he found not to be a very good thing He ate far too much candy that night and doesnt care to even look at it any more Indeed Tommy says its lots of fun sharing things today Now he has a great deal of fun and plenty of friends And hes going to do such a nice thing this Halloween Instead of his own usual extra big grab bag he is collecting for needy children living in faraway countries Tommy has promised his friends the fairies to say Please and Thank You for everything They are so delighted they plan to surprise him afterwards with a Dreamers Fun Party in Lolly Pop Land WYLIEMAN THE MOUSE TAMER Many different creatures live in the forest regions surrounding us Tree mice live there So do elves Of course elves aie not creatures they are tiny fairy people This story will tell you about one little elf named Wylieman and his plans for the future Wylieman is very courageous He is a mouse tamer a mouse to him is as big as a lion would be to you and just as fierce Perhaps you wonder why he should want to tame mice at all The reason is simple because he is such a brave and strong elf his King asked him to do it There is sometimes a need for chariots in Elfinland Such tiny chariots would look like models to you or I King Robin desired to have many chariots ready for a very special occasion The Royal Elfin Carpenter set to work immedi immediately ¬ ately And Wylieman was appointed as the Royal Mouse Tamer charged to supply enough mice to pull all King Robins chariots when necessary The task was a difficult one But Wylieman being kind as well as brave first made friends with all the mice He often fed them tasty tid bits and they grew to know that he could be trusted and would not harm them Thus he was delighted to find that the mice understood when he told them about the Kings chariots He did not need to use a whip or any such thing they were tamed by his kindness Wylieman had permission to tell the mice the Kings secret and when they heaid it the mice were happy proud and excited too they strove to pull the chariots expertly Now Wylieman and his well trained mice are anxiously awaiting THE special event Do you know what it is You should Because all this preparation has been just to help the children of Prince George on this coming Halloween night The wee chariots and their Elfin rideis will be travelling through all the many ways of our Spruce City They will be there under order from their King to frighten all the naughty spirits away But children be wary Look about you carefully It wouldnt do to tipad on your wee helpers of the night -- rr w J J v M -
