Clinic Canadas successes In In International ¬ ternational track and field in recent years constitute one of the most important fac factors ¬ tors in the sports growing popularity across the coun country ¬ try Such is the opinion of Geoff ley Dyson head coach of the Canadian Legion track and field program who was in the city on the weekend to conduct a coaches clinic for the newly -formed Prince George Track and Field Club In recent years Canada has had a number of famous athletes like Dill Crothers Druce Kidd and Harry Jer Jerome ¬ ome Mr Dyson said Fri Friday ¬ day this is an important contributing factor to tho sports popularity He said that among other things that have brought track and field into its own as a major participation sport are the Legions nation wide track and field program and harsh words by the Duke of Edinburgh on the physical fitness of the nation Track and Field Is also booming throughout the world added Mr Dyson and it has one of the largest followings of any sport on earth Probably ono of the most Important single undertak undertakings ¬ ings to promote Canadian track and field came with the Canadian Legions entry into the sport In 105G the organization established a training camp with 130 athletes from across Canaci In atten attendance ¬ dance They didnt achieve very much however Mr Dyson said The squad was too big for the number of coaches and they were just shouting themselves hoarse Mr Dyson first became involved In the program when he came here from England in 1962 to conduct the legions program at Guelph Ontario Things went well and it was a good clinic Dyson admitted this weekend and the legion asked him to come here for two years to con conduct ¬ duct year round training programs It was nothing doing on the suggestion
