will be among the best produced In the world Thats the opinion of the ex experts ¬ perts behind Northwood Pulp Limited which is spending mil millions ¬ lions to bring its C25 tons per day Prince lit little ¬ tle fir Mr Richmond sas the blend researched by Mead Corpora Corporation ¬ tion scientists is Ideal for a strong versatile product Mead Corporation is a partner in Northwood with Noranda Mines At the top begins and at the bottom ends tne actual conver conversion ¬ sion of wood chips into pulp Admittedly when the mushy pulp leaves the bottom of the digester after being cooked in strong chemicals It isnt much to look at but the remainder of the process will look after that This brown stock is dis discharged ¬ charged Into a blow tank where spent cooking liquor is washed out Trom the liquor incidentally a largo percentage of the chemicals can be recovered Tho process simply is toeva porate the liquor until it be becomes ¬ comes combustible when it is fed into the giant recovery boil boiler ¬ er and burned until chemicals can be reclaimed later to be re caustlcized with lime Meanwhile back in the pulp pulping ¬ ing group the pulp slurry is going through a sophisticated yet simple purification and bleaching process Rotary screens remove most of the residual impurities before tho slurry moves into the five stage bleaching sys tem which starts with chlorina tion to remove llgnin and begin a change in color of the now brown pulp Largo storage and treatment tanks standing alongside the chemicals to effect the trans transformation ¬ formation By the time it has completed the bleach wash cycle with a boost through a caustic and chlorine dioxide bleaching stages the slurry is as bril brilliant ¬ liant as its manufacturers de desire ¬ sire it to be Mr Richmond says Noith wood will be able to produce as bright a pulp as any other mill anywhere The pulp is re screened to remove residual dirt particles and moves on to Radiclone cen centrifugal ¬ trifugal cleanors from which it emerges a 1C per cent slurry and is pumped Into a high den density ¬ sity storage tank at the head of tho pump machine Northwoods drying process is a relatively new one rapid becoming common on the mod modern ¬ ern pulp and paper industry Moving in a continuous sheet about 232 inches in width over a Beloit wet end and through a tpo L sr Tlakt airborne drier the pulp emerges contiinlng about 10 per cent moisture standard In pulp sales Northwoods 500 pound ship shipping ¬ ping bales after they have un undergone ¬ dergone the pressure of a mas massively ¬ sively strong hydraulic press
