WfSPli19iEfSHHiyiEIS 1 WENZEL and ELEANOR at the Canton THE TUESDAY COLUMN By JAN UDO WENZEL Songstress Eleanor Collins arrived here last night and had one comment The transportation to Prince George by air leaves a lot to be desired Good we have said that a long time ago but it seems it is still the same Namely inadequate She had good reason to complain because her plane from Vancouver was late as usual when we have a little bit of fog Miss Collins without rehearsal went into her act at the Canton Inn and if it was nothing else it was a highly professional pleasing performance The Keith Kent Trio did a good job accompanying her Eleanor well known in Canada from her own TV show and personal appearances will be at the Canton Inn for two weeks Eleanor Worth the Trip Her routine will get the audience She started out with the famous Hello Dolly and at once had the attention of even those who had been talking while Mandrake the Magician did his tricks The lack of a Monday audience did not deter her from putting on a good if short show Eleanor is worth the trip to Spruceland Arent some of our laws ridiculous Take the one that does not permit a restaurant or hotel to advertise that it has a licenced premises and that in some of those licenced premises certain specialties can be found I dont know exactly what the law says but from what I gather from hotelmen it is simply a law that forbids all mentioning of places where you can have a beer Silly Line for Government But isnt it about time that the name beer parlor disappeared That one clearly shows the ignorance its a beer parlor where you dont do anything else but drink beer How boring The word tavern or pub is far more appropriate because in the countries where these expressions are used they indicate that other things can be done besides drinking beer Alright so we have shuffleboard and a juke box But if anything else is added it has to be spread by word of mouth Take the Inn Theres now a daily buffet luncheon set up from noon to one thirty Why should a business not be able to advertise what it is doing The beer companies the distillers all have their ads in papers even though they must be careful not to miss that silly line about keeping the provincial government clean And the government as everyone knows rakes in great profit from the booze Sinful to Acknowledge But with the puritan attitudes we inherited it is still disgraceful and even sinful to acknowledge that some people like to have a beer and like to have it in pleasant surroundings Mind you we have come a long way in the last ten years but it is not good enough yet As long as the liquor control board is run in arbitrary fashion by a relic from other times we will have to suffer Still I cant see why a hotel such as the Inn cant come out and tell the people that it is trying to make it more pleasant to sit down and have a beer That you can go down to the pub and have a decent meal during lunch hour Snowmobile Club Snow Field Day Set
