Victoria on the develop development ¬ ment of a super poi t at Roberts Bank calls lor a lull investigation of the operation of the National Harbours Board on the Pacilic coast Such an investigation was recom recommended ¬ mended this week by Kamloops Con Conservative ¬ servative MP Davie Fulton It is a suggestion that should find support in view of the massive Kaiser Steel Fernie coal contract with the Japanese steel industry Any delay caused by inter-governmental squabbling cannot be tolerated Mr Fulton refers to the past short shortcomings ¬ comings and misjudgments exhibited by the National Harbours Board relative to Pacific coast port development And he is right Certainly it is not so long ago that federal authorities proclaimed that a super port at Roberts Bank was pre premature ¬ mature a judgment that events have proved was shortsighted The need for another port whether Ottawa participates or not is necessi necessitated ¬ tated not only by the multi million coal WINTER A visitor fiom a warmer clime dropping Intoaprairio city Tor the first Urns during a January cold snap when wind chill drops the mer mercury ¬ cury to CO or 60 below zero is not likely to there were designed and constructed for a shipping trade of an earlier age But its biggest drawback is the lack of space There simply isnt the space for such facilities as a lumber assembly area nor is there space to expand rail railway ¬ way facilities There is no question that a port at Roberts Bank will someday serve the entire west coast of the North Ameri American ¬ can continent BC has a greater stake in port de development ¬ velopment than most other provinces particularly with the vast Pacific rim trading area only now coming into focus Thats why Mr Fultons suggestion that there is a need for provincial rep representation ¬ resentation on the harbours board is a worthy one And an investigation of the NHB an imperative one Particularly now that BC has its own harbours board Its all architects and construction companies while planning a house or a commercial structure have you ever thought will this building be accessibleby the handicapped I believe that building the school
