Kroeger of Con Consort ¬ sort Alta in the final game of the Crown of Curling bon spiel Monday The Giles rink won 4500 with the victory Curling with skip Brent were his brothers Brock and rad and Clark Winterton all of Vancouver With Kroeger were Mike Lukowich of Vancouver Rick Cust of Edmonton and Brian Kroeger of Consort They share the 2500 runner up cash prize The Consort skip made an outstanding draw shot of his own in the 12th end to force the extra session and Giles was facing two Kroeger stones as he made his final delivery but made no error on the prize winning draw RON ALLERTON SPORTS before shaking hands Earlier in the day Giles defeated Lizee 9 3 and Krueger beat Braunstein 7 6 In quarter final matches Krueger downed Elgin Smith of Kimberlcy BC 10 7 Giles beat Barry Adams of Pentic ton BC 10 6 Lizee edged Kevin Smale of Prince George BC 10 9 and Braunstein defeated Ry Vinthers of Van Vancouver ¬ couver 8 7 Norths rinks go down tough Three Prince George rinks and one from Quesnel provided much of the competition at the weekend Kamloops bonspiel The Kevin Smale foursome went the furthest playing nine games in the three events before being sidelined The Les Pederson rink Edmonton and 8 4 over Vinthers of Vancouver A 7 6 loss to Lizee of Richmond dropped Smale into the C event where he beat Brian Douglas of Edmonton 8 5 before going to the sidelines in a 10 9 loss to Lizee B finals in soccer Three of four Prince George minor soccer teams made it to the B event final of the North Delta invitational tournament during the weekend However all three lost The Northwood Rec Club entered the 13 year old B event after losing to the McSween Highlanders 1 0 They got to the final taking the South Slope TJs2 l but were blanked 2 0 by the North Shore Beavers in the championship Rendell Equipment almost took the 12 year old B event They lost to Guilford 2 1 in the final in overtime Rendell earlier blanked the Tsawwassen Falcons 3 0 but lost to the West Vancouver Spurs 4 1 in their opener The PGAs were blanked 2 0 by Westburne of Burnaby in the 11 year old B final They earlier took the West Van Vancouver ¬ couver Spurways 3 2 but lost their opener 3 0 to Bel sports reporter It was a disastrous weekend to say the least The Prince George junior Spruce Kings left Saturday for a three game road trip with high hopes They were playing three of the top clubs in the Pacific Northwest Hockey League and coach Gord Cruickshank said he would be happy with two wins The Kings lost all three road games going down 5 4 in over overtime ¬ time to the Terrace junior Cen Centennials ¬ tennials Saturday then taking a 10 1 hammering from the Houston intermediate Luckies Sunday and losing 3 1 to the Smithers junior Chiefs Mon Monday ¬ day The Terrace game was a heartbreaker They outshot Polars Polarettes dominate The Polars and Polarettes voleyball teams kept their impressive play going during the weekend in Quesnel Both won their divisions in the invitational tournament and both placed three players on the all star teams The Polarettes whipped the FortSt John 15 1 15 5 and 15 1 to breeze through the girls section final while the Polars did much the same thing to 100 Mile House in the boys final winning 15 4 15 3 and 15 3 Making the all star team for the Polars were Rob Minchin Rocky McKinley and Larry Mintenko Fran Tiesson Debbie Fischer and Jane Cryer made the giTs all star team for the Polarettes This was the fifth tourna tournament ¬ ment win for the Polars this season with the Polarettes winning number four Both teams went 57 minutes in penalties and Houston 28 Danny Anderson scored the Kings only goal with Bob Leduc and Doug Stumpf each scoring three for the unbeaten Classy Eagles best bantams The Eagles are the obvious class of the bantam section of the Prince George Minor Foot Football ¬ ball Association this season The Cal Washington coached team won the championship Sunday taking the Northern Hardware Rams 28 13 at Rot Rotary ¬ ary Stadium The Eagles season record was nine wins without a loss and they outscored the opposi opposition ¬ tion 221 29 Scoring touchdowns for the champion Eagles were the Boos got five minute fighting majors and the Hawks Gord Merritt and Real Gamache of Quesnel both got game misconducts for starting a second fight at the same time Otherwise there were just 16 minor penalties six to the Hawks and 10 to Quesnel The attendance was just 688 Sunday the Hawks had only one thing in mind a win to offset the bad memory of Saturday night By the end of the first period they led 3 0 and after 40 minutes it was 6 1 Grant Evans and Keith Rol ston led the Hawks with three goals each Singles went to Pierre Bergeron Bill Bell Dennis Bergeron and Grant Williams who
