to start talks immediately on their East Coast fisheries dispute Arrangements for the talks were made formally at the European security summit in a 10 minute conversation between Prime Minister Trudeau and Soviet party chief Leonid Brezhnev Actually talks had already begun on the question Offi Officials ¬ cials from both sides met briefly Wednesday night The dispute which led Canada to ban the huge Soviet fleet from East Coast ports earlier this month was one of three major topics discussed by Trudeau and Brezhnev The others concerned the importance of co operation in economic and trade matters Mideast talks in key phase CAIRO AP Negotiations on the Middle East appeared to be entering a critical phase today as Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and his military and political leaders took up Israels latest proposal for a new dividing line in the Sinai desert Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmy met first with US Ambassador Hermann Eilts who brought the Israeli prop proposal ¬ osal to Cairo Fahmy and Eilts then saw Sadat at his summer home in Alexandria Eilts takes Egypts answer to US State Secretary Henry Kissin Kissinger ¬ ger on Sunday They will meet in Yugoslavia Egyptian and US officials would not discuss the latest proposal described Monday by Israeli Defence Minister Shimon Peres as the Jewish states final offer Diplomatic sources say the two sides remain far apart over the major issue of where to draw a line in two key moun mountain ¬ tain passes in Sinai and control of a strategic road leading to the Abu Rudeis oil field in southern Sinai To put pressure on the Mideast negotiations Egypt asked the Organization ofiAf n can Unity meeting in Kam Kampala ¬ pala Uganda to adopt a resolution calling for Israels suspension from the United Nations At the same time Prime Minis Minister ¬ ter Olof Palme of Sweden another of a continuing round of bilateral talks being held during the three day summit Trudeau had breakfast with West German Chancellor Hel Helmut ¬ mut Schmidt and discussed the summit conference NATO and the nuclear non proliferation treaty There was no indication whether the NATO talks included the Canadian con contingent ¬ tingent to NATO a subject that has cropped up in other Canada West Germany talks this year Later today the prime minister was to meet briefly with Romanian party chief Nicolai Ceausescu at the Romanian embassy Canadian officials refused to speculate on the subject of those talks The talks on the fisheries dis dispute ¬ pute are the first to be held with the Soviet Union since the Canadian government announced it was
