Houdlnl marker NEW YOHK (AP) - A new bust of legendary escape artist Harry Houdini was unveiled Wednesday at his grave In Queens, replacing a life-size statue that was destroyed by vandals a year ago. The new bust, a two-fool sculpture valued at $500, was donated by the Society of American Magicians. "I think the person thai smashed the sculpture thought there was a message inside from Houdini," said Frank Heilly , one of the magician's only living relatives, who denied Houdini's widespread reputation to have had supernatural powers. Nureyev plea LONDON (AP) - Russian ballet star Rudolf Nureyev has appealed to the British government to help him arrange a reunion with his mother, whom he has not seen for 15 years, government sources say. The dancer, who defected to the West in 1961, has asked Prime Minister Harold Wilson to use his influence with Soviet authorities to arrange for his mother, Farida Nureyev, now in her 70s, to be allowed out of the Soviet Union. Astoria gives city 1 1 hotels With the official opening Monday of the Astoria Inn on Second Avenue, Prince George will have 11 full-fledged hotels. The new Astoria is the successor to the old Astoria Hotel which burned down Feb. 5, 1974. The new hotel will increase Prince George's bed capacity by 22. Each room has television and prices start at $13 for single occupancy. Owners Joe and Kathy Buyer were In the hotel business in Smlthers and Hope before they bought the old Astoria here in 1963. The new hotel features a cafeteria, tavern and will have a barbershop and souvenir store, featuring Ukrainian Easter eggs, arts and crafts. Buyer said he employs 12 perons in its operation. To celebrate the official opening, an open house will be held Monday. The hotel's tavern has a seating capacity of 216 and the cafeteria, managed by Cal and Bride Nelson, seats 88. The cafeteria specializes in European food for consumption on the premises as well as for take-out service. Buyer, who used to trap in his younger days, said he is calling his tavern the Trappers Room. The decor, chosen by Buyer, features a lot of red cedar woodwork and displays pictures of hunting scenes.
