admits
fraud

Car-rick,
executive
director
of
the
.Canadian
Cancer
Society,
admitted
in
country
court
Friday
that
he
took
part
in
a
car
repair
fraud
against
the
Insurance
Corp.
of
British
Columbia.
He
told
Judge
D.
T.
Wet
more
and
the
jury
that
he
collaborated
with
an
1CBC
claims
adjuster
and
another
man
to
'have
his
wife's
car
repainted
under
a
claim
for
vandalism
'that
never
occurred.
Carrick
was
giving
Crown
evidence
at
the
trial
of
Trl
Starr
Collision
Repairs
Ltd.
and
its
operator,
Stanley
Kadlec,
who
are
charged
with
conspiring
with
Stuart
Trober,
a
former
ICBC
claims
adjuster,
and
David
Sharma,
a
former
ICBC
damage
estimator,
to
defraud
the
corporation
between
February
and
May
1975.
They
are
accused
of
illegally
obtaining
money
from
ICBC
by
submitting
repair
documents

increased
the
cost
to
ICBC
to
more
than
the
value
of
repairs
actually
done.
Trober
told
the
court
that
he,
Sharma
and
Kadlec
were
engaged
in
a
scheme
by
which
Sharma
would
bump
up
the
estimated
cost
of
repairing
cars
brought
in
by
their
owners,
that
Trober
would
approve
the
inflated
cost
items,
that
they
would
then
recommend
to
the
owners
that
Tri
Starr
do
the
job,
and
that
Kadlec,
Trober
and
Sharma
would
split
the
amount
over
and
above
what
it
actually
cost
Tri
Starr
to
do
the
repairs.
The
ICBC
payment
cheques
to
Tri
Starr
were
based
on
the
amount
authorized
by
Trober
in
the
claims
documents.
Trober
testified
Thursday
that
in
addition
to
obtaining
ICBC
money
by
bumping
up
otherwise
legitimate
repair
claims,
there
were
also
cases
when
he
put
through
claims
for
car
accident
damage
that
never
happened.

told
the
jury
he

cause

the
car's
damage.

Trober
came
to
his
West
Vancouver
home
and
brought
the
necessary
ICBC

Sea-Bus
moves

Vancouver's
new
ferry
system
connecting
the
downtown
area
with
North
Vancouver
shuttled
15,000
people
across
Burrard
Inlet
on
its
first
day
of
public
operations
Friday.
Most
of
the
passengers
paid
35
cents
to
board
the
Sea-Bus
system
-
more
for
the
novelty
than
speed,
The
system
is
meant
to
accommodate
foot
passengers
as
well
as
persons
leaving
buses
with
transfer
tickets.
"It
took
me
50
per
cent
longer,
but
it's
a
lovely
ride,"
commented
one
commuter
while
another
said
he
was
just
"giving
it
a
whirl."

Pratt
said
commuters
aren't
altruistic
enough
to
help
a
system
that
doesn't
help
them,
but
ferry
officials
promised
that

after
discovering

he
felt
might
be
irregularities.
Flick
said
that
photocopies
were
made
of
the
files
on
Trober's
desk,
that
later
the
files
were
removed,
and
that
a
check
showed
that
certain
changes
had
been
made
in
the
files
after
they
were
photocopied.
The
trial
continues.

operations
at

terminal

6:15
a.m.
and
end
the
day
at
12:30
a.m.

will
launch

navy

Pacific
this
summer

Foundation
president

Moore
told

the
"dirty
tricks"
being
played
by
the
Japanese
whaling
industry
have
forced
Greenpeace

drastically

Review
promised

complaints

disgruntled
secretaries

ministers

cabinet

reviewed

secretaries,

Medical
Association,
which
has
turned
down
a
government
offer
of
a
5.112
per
cent
fee
increase,
is
returning
to
the
bargaining
table
asking
for
the
full
settlement
allowed
by
the
Anti-Inflation
Board
and
other
benefits,
according
to
the
BCMA
News.
The
News,
a
medical-political
tabloid
published
by
former
Surrey
alderman
Dr.
John
O'Brien-Bell,
says
the
negotiating
team
has
been
instructed
to
ask
for:
a
larger
allowance
for
increased
overheads;
more
money
for
an
education
fund,
used
to
help
doctors
get
extra
training;
a
professional
fee
increase
"in
keeping
with
that
permissible
under
AIB;"
and
removal
of
an
increase
in
disability
benefits
from
the
professional

members
danced
in
the
aisles
at
the
Jose
Feliciano
concert
here
Saturday.
The
Coliseum
was
hot
and
steamy
with
an
outside
temperature
of
29
degrees
but
Feliciano
made
the
audience
of
1,500
forget
the
weather
with
his
startling
voice
and
guitar
versatility.
He
opened
the
concert
with
the
theme
he
wrote
from
the
television
series
Chico
and
the
Man,
an
upbeat
song
that
got
a
wild
and
immediate
response
from
the
audience.
Feliciano,
backed
by
three
musicians
on
drums,
bass
and
keyboards,
changed
ably
from
one
musical
form
to
the
next
including
rock,
blues,
country
and
western
and
balad.
He
also
did
voice'
impersonations
of
barnyard
sounds
with
appropriate
guitar
sounds.
Throughout
the
concert,
Feliciano
gave
the
impression
that
he
loved
what
he
was
doing
that
he
wasn't
there

Feliciano

performing
since
he
was
nine
and
has
been
blind
since
birth.
The
Prince
George
concert
was
part
of
a
nine-city
tour
of
western
Canada.
Without
pausing
to
banter
with
the
audience
between
songs,
Feliciano
had
the
audience
clapping
in
unison
one
minute
and
listening
attentively
the
next.
After
an
electric
guitar
solo
designed
to
spotlight
his
virtuosity,
Feliciano
ended
the
concert
with
an
optimistic
tune
called
I
Write
the
Songs.
For
an
encore
he
sang
a
shortened
version
of
Light
My
Fire.
After
the
show,
Feliciano
said
he
used
to
perform
on
the
road
240
days
a
year
but
the
schedule
became
intolerable.
He
now
performs
out
of
large
cities,
only
a
few
times
a
year.
He
said
he
would
like
to
be
performing
when
he
is
60,
like
Frank
Sinatra,
even
if
he
is
financially
able
to
stop
working.
Feliciano
was
preceded
by
Richie
Lecea,
a
singer
and
guitarist
from
California,
Lecea
sang
ballads
and
catchy
ntry,
ail
tunes
and
put
the
audience
in
a
high
mood.
The

he
