CHICAGO (AP) -George C. Scott says in an interview with Playboy magazine that while acting can be "very, very psychologically damaging,” he believes it "rescued me from myself to a large extent.” “I have a lot of self-hatred," Scott said in the interview, to be published in the magazine's December issue. "Acting didn't cause it. Acting is, in some sense, a relief bf that pressure.” Scott, awarded an Oscar for his portrayal of Gen. George Patton, warns that sensitive people who are Scott says acting 'damaging' unable to cope with the "psychological disturbances” to which acting can lead should stay out of the profession.” He cited the deaths of Elvis Presley, Gig Young and Marilyn Monroe as examples of the "high mor- tality rate in this business.” “Marilyn is one of the classics,” Scott said. "Torn, mad, tortured, confused...little lady — had no more business being a film star than I have being shah of Saudi Arabia...no way is that fragile psyche going to be able to hold that. Thi assault is too extreme.” * Scott, 53, said he will di nothing to help his children enter the acting profession. He said that when his daughter, Devon, decided to become an actress, he did not speak to her for morf than a year.
