42 — THE CITIZEN, Prince George — Friday, March 5. 1982 Churches squeezed out by growing communities Churches like this one in Calvary are beinp replaced by office buildings. by JEFF ADAMS CALGARY (CP) -Faced with a dwindling congregation and encroaching high-rise towers. Rev. Robert Moland's First Lutheran Church is to be demolished. Like many churches in other cities. First Lutheran has failed to survive in the downtown core and is constructing a new church in the suburbs. First Lutheran’s problems began in the 1970s when developers began buying all nearby homes to make way for apartment, office and hotel towers. Moland hoped to recruit new members for his congregation from the hundreds of apartment dwellers but found building managers had security policies which usually wouldn't allow him beyond the front door. •> Even when he did manage to get inside, the apartment residents didn’t want to get involved. “They were living independently, avoiding all responsibility.” he said. The church finally sold out for more than SI million, the second Lutheran church in the city centre to do so within two years. The first. Mount Calvary Lutheran, is being eplaced by a 24-storey office building. "We were sitting on a piece of property we knew was very, very expensive and meanwhile our congregation was dwindling,” said Rev. Robert Schoenheider in explaining the decision to also head for the suburbs. Schoenheider, who came to Calgary from Washington. D.C., said the plight of downtown churches is universal. "We don’t want to sell out completely and abandon the inner city,” said Shilliday. A lot of people call life "The Survival of the Fittest". But you will never make it to heaven that way The word ol God clearly tells man to turn Irom the tradition and doctrine ol man and turn to ;he doctrine ol Jesus Chnst (god). The Bible clearly describes to us that except a man be bom again he can not and will not be able to enter into the Kingdom ol God Wore than this il man does not repent and receive the Spirit ol God into his or her life, they cannot have communication or a personal relationship with anyone that he or she has not met (or received) personally. To us that believe in the Lori Jesus Christ, and his invisible church, we are concerned and ache, that, yes many, many people who have gone to church all their lives or belong to different types ol cults or religions will never enter the Kingdom ot God Our receive forgiveness of their sins, only because they had not received Jesus or believed on him as the word ol God teaches. Their teachers do not teach them the truth because they do not have the truth (Jesus). Only a bom again, washed in the blood (ol the Lamb), Holy Ghost Mled believer, can understand the scripture of God and is able to walk in the ways ol God You will say to me why’ Because the word ol God was written by Holy men ol old that were moved upon by the Holy Ghost and so they wrote When God desires a Holy man ol God to write his message he moves upon him by his Spirit and through the Holy Ghost which abides in that man. he is able to relate the message Irom God to man. In order lor you or anyone else to understand God and his word you need the Holy Ghost (the Spirit ol God) Bu‘ you can only receive the Holy Ghost after you have asked Jesus to come into your Me and lorgive your sins (born again). So be not deceived and don t let anyone deceive you. No matter how important anyone might think he is or what kind ol titles or degrees he may hold. II he is not preaching to you the doctrine ol Jesus Christ, do not listen to him Seek the way ol Jesus Christ only. Because only by this one doctrine, the doctrine ol Jesus Christ will you be able to have your sins forgiven and receive eternal life. The doctrine ol Jesus Chnst consists ol the Father, the Son. and the Holy Ghost The ministry ol this doctrine is followed by signs, the working power of the Holy Ghost Signs ol deliverance, speaking with other tongues, prophesying, healing, working ol miracles, words ol wisdom and knowledge and many other signs. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever He has never changed and neither has his teachings Believe on Jesus today and receive the gill ol eternal life. Jesus is the only way and the way for you. Who are you following — a religion with a dead end, or are you following Jesus Christ with the truth and eternal life. With Jesus you can abide in the presence and love ot God forever. Glory to God you can be saved today. Do you belong to Jesus or to a religion?
