THE CITIZEN, Prince George — Thursday, January 6,1983 — 21 15 SEEK TITLE Teen queens As Laura-Ann Cutway, Miss Teen Prince George 1982, prepares to relinguish her crown and throne, a bevy of beauties wait in the wings to take her place. When Cutway steps down the annual pageant Jan. 29, a new queen will be ready to represent this city in Toronto’s 1983 Miss Teen Canada contest March 7. The 15 candidates, ranging in age from 14 to 17 years, must face judges three times before the final event in Vanier Hall. During a public speaking event at 7 p.m. Jan. 21 at College of New Caledonia they will be judged on poise, public appeal and reaction to stress situations. Make-up, modelling and fashion co-ordination, adjudicated at fashion shows at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14 and 2 p.m. Jan. 15 in Pine Centre Mall, will precede final individual interviews with judges. Pageant night will feature the girls in a large stage production highlighting sports, fitness and dancer-cise routines. Winners of the fitness and scholarship awards as well as the Miss Congeniality title will be announced at the coronation ceremony. This Grade 8 student is involved in basketbdl at Prince George Senior Secondary School as well as a junior ski team and figure skating. The brown-haired, blueeyed candidate came here three years ago from Kamloops. IiAUKIE HICKS, 17, plays saxophone, trumpet and guitar and is a cheer leader at College Heights Secondary School. This Grade 12 student, who wishes to become a chartered accountant, is a blue-eyed blonde and stands five-feet-two (1.57 metres). She came here at the age of 12 after living and travelling across Canada during her father’s armed service career. SHANNON PUSHIE, 15, is a Grade 10 student at John Mclnnis Secondary school who wishes to pursue a career in data processing. This teen-queen aspirant, who came here a few years ago from Saskatchewan, is involved with volleyball and basketball teams. Shannon has green eyes and stands five-feet-six inches (1.67 metres). ALANA BELANGER, 15, is a Grade 10 student at College Heights Secondary School who has aspirations of flying-as a stewardess-fo-lowing graduation.The dark-haired teen, who stands five-feet-four (1.63 metres) plays volleyball, likes rollerskating and art and owns an Arabian horse. TINA CAMPS, 17, is a Grade 12 student at Kelly Road Secondary School where she’s involved in peer counselling. This budding journalist, who was born in Alberta, has green eyes, blonde hair and stands just over five feet (1.53 metres). KAREN KRIEGER, 16, who came here from Ontario as an infant, is a Grade 11 student at Prince George Senior Secondary School. She enjoys downhill skiing and hopes to become a flight attendant after graduation. Karen has dark blonde hair, green eyes and stands five-feet-six (1.67 metres). LANA ROMANUIK, 16, pursues many sports but long-distance running is her favorite. She’s a Grade 11 student at Prince George Senior Secondary School who hopes to become a dental hygienist. Lana, who was bom here, has brown hair, blue eyes and stands five-feet-six (1.67 metres). DEE-ANN BRIELSMAN, 16 ,is an avid skiier who hopes to become a social worker. The brown-haired, blue-eyed teen who stands five-feet-five (1.65 metres)is a Grade 11 student at Duchess Park Secondary School. DENISE CLOWATER, 17, is a Grade 12 student at Duchess Park Secondary School. She was deeply involved in gymnastics until a back injury forced her to stop, but not before she brought home two gold and three silver medals from the 1982 B.C. Winter Games. She has brown eyes and hair and stands five-feet-five (1.65 metres). GEORGINA HARRISON, 17, is a Grade 12 student at Kelly Road Secondary School. Georgina, who was born here, likes swimming and dancercise. She has brown hair and eyes and stands five-feet-eight (1.73 metres). TAMI MAIDA, 15, is a football quarterback whose talents have been recognized here and in the United States. This Grade 10 Kelly Road student participates in a variety of sports and hopes to be a physical education teacher. Tami appears with her sisters and mother annually on the Prince George Telethon. She has blonde hair, blue eyes and stands five-feet-three inches (1.60 metres). HEATHER MCLENNAN, 17, lives on a farm at Salmon Valley. She is in Grade 11 at Kelly Road Secondary School and is interested in a career revolving around travel. The five-foot-six (1.67 metres) contender with brown hair and green eyes is involved in basketball, racquet ball and enjoys modelling. KIM SCOFIELD, 17, intends to major in music, writing and psychology. She’s involved in badminton, skiiing and likes jazz dance, leather work and modelling. Kim, who is a Grade 12 student at D.P. Todd Secondary school, has blonde hair, green eyes and stands five-feet-six (1.67 metres). ANNETTE SCOP, 16, is an outdoors enthusiast who enjoys skiing and other winter sports. Annette, who has dark hair, brown eyes and stands five-feet-six (1.67 metres), is set on becoming a broadcaster and journalist following graduation. She is in Grade 11 at Duchess Park Secondary School. CHARLENE ATKINSON is a 16-year-old Grade 10 student at D.P. Todd Secondary School. The five-foot-four (1.63 metres) brown-ish-blonde teen was born in Toronto but has lived here since the age of four. She plays volleyball on the senior school team and likes modem dance.
