Youth Parliament session, between Dec. 27 and 31: Carl Davidson, Deanna Randall, and Laurie Makowski. The three will be among 82 other young people ranging in age from 16 to 21. During the session the 85 will discuss topics of local, national and international concern. They will include: preserving the fine arts within B.C.’s educational system, the nation’s external affairs direction, condemnation of the competitive principle, support- ing the agricultural land reserve and the necessity of a committee system within the B.C. legislature. Service projects for the coming year will also be discussed. Proposals include a week-long camp for needy children, weekly hospital visitations in Victoria and Vancouver, a program for boys on Victoria’s Big Brothers waiting list and organizing pro-teen programs in Vancouver neighborhood houses, B.C.’s Youth Parliament is the only one in Canada to be both a service organization and a forum for developing speaking and debating skills.
