Walton leads Celtics in avenging title loss by Canadian Press Boston forward Bill Walton, making the most of a cameo appearance and an off-night by Los Angeles centre Kareem Abdul-Jab-bar, helped the Celtics obtain a measure of revenge Wednesday for their loss to the Lakers in last year’s National Basketball Association championship final. Walton was a dominant force Wednesday night in Boston’s easy 110-95 victory, the first meeting of the two teams since the June NBA final. The six-foot-11 forward had 11 oints, eight rebounds, seven ocked shots and one steal in 16 minutes of action. His performance revved up a crowd or 14,890, the 240th consecutive sellout for the Celtics at Boston Garden. “He inspired the troops the way he was blocking shots out there,” Lakers coach Pat Riley said. “His performance didn’t surprise me. “He plays inspired in every game. Some nights he may not be as productive but he always plays hard.” "I’m feeling good." said Walton, whose career has been plagued by injuries. "Playing about 20 minutes or so every game helps my timing.” In other games, it was: the Philadelphia 76ers 118 Phoenix Suns 111; Atlanta Hawks 131 Golden State Warriors 100; Detroit Pistons 107 Cleveland Cavaliers 104; Los Angeles Clippers 131 Dallas Mavericks 118; and Denver Nuggets 137 New Jersey Nets 124. Accomplishing that was easier for the College Heights Cougars than it was for the Prince George Secondary School Polarettes, though. The Cougars cruised to a 95-64 win over the Kelly Road Runners, Ian Banks’ 30 points leading the winners. Cory Bachand had 22 as well for College Heights, while John Maddigan scored 18 for Kelly Road. The Cougars (4-0) maintained their two-point lead over the Duchess Park Condors (3-2), who beat the slumping Prince George Secondary School Polars 65-59 in the other boys’ game. Travis Poirier had 16, Brad McDonald 15 and Eric Lytle 14 for Duchess, which led by nine at three-quarter time but saw that lead dwindle to two in the final minutes before putting the game away. Lee Karpenko had 20 and Shawn Boulding 15 for PGSS, which has lost its past three games. In girls’ games Wednesday, the Polarettes moved to 5-0 with a hard-fought 44-36 win over the Duchess Park Condorettes. Duchess led 16-12 at halftime and maintained that margin most of the way, but 18 points from Barb In-sley and 10 from Lyn Johnson helped PGSS win. Nada Vukovic had 12 for Duchess (3-3). The Prince George College Totems kept pace with PGSS by beating the D.P. Todd Trojans 70-48. Sylvia Matte led P.G. College (4-1) with 20 points, while Tammy MacDonald had 16 for the Trojans (1-3). In the other game, the Kelly Road Runners downed the College Heights Cougars 51-32 to raise their record to 3-3, tied for third with Duchess. Karen Little had 15 and Sandra Hill and Jennifer Evanoff each had 10 for the Runners, while Marinda Gorbahn topped the Cougars with 10. w L P It 422 10 520 10 520 10 520 10 520 9 618 9 618 9 618 9 618 8 716 8 716 8 716 7 814 Runners play host 7 814 7 814 7 814 7 814 6 912 6 912 51010 51010 51010 411 8 312 6 LABATTS-PWA SUPER LEAGUE Second square final w L p A square Bryan Mooney 5 2 10 DeWing Auto 4 3 8 Team Doyle 4 3 8 River Industries 4 3 8 Ted Moflat 3 4 6 PWA 3 4 6 Sandy MacDonald 3 4 6 Runners World 2 5 4 B square Falcon Viewing 6 112 Nicholson Chev-Olds 5 210 Mr Big N Tall 5 210 Klassic Auto 4 3 8 AM-PM Foods 3 4 6 Adam Wopechowski 3 4 6 LesAbnei 2 5 4 Canboo Business 0 7 0 C square Dennis Megale 5 210 Sunland Subaru 5 210 Acey Deucey Auto 4 3 8 Budget Surplus 4 3 8 Diane Dako 4 3 8 Lakewood Electric 3 4 6 Coach s Comer 254 Canadian Tire 1 6 2 LABATTS-PWA SUPER LEAGUE W L P 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 1 0 2 0 1 2 0 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 The Kelly Road Runners play host to an eight-team senior A (small school) high school girls’ basketball tournament this weekend.
