On “The Colbys,” British actress Stephanie Beacham has already breathed life into the stereotypical (and stale) television soap-opera villain immortalized by Larry Hagman’s J.R. Ewing and Joan Collin's Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter — and aped by a score of imitators. "Right now. I’m putting all my energy into making Sable a three-dimensional person,” Miss Beacham says. “I hope it’s the right thing to do because I’m going to alienate everyone by creating this person, who is very, very difficult. But she might be worth it, because she’s got more than a touch of vulnerability. Her family comes first for her, and she’ll do anything because of it. She hastunnel vision. I hope people don’t start thinking I’m like her, because I’m certainly not!” For starters, Miss Beacham does not seem to take herself even half as seriously as Sable does. “I’m a bit unworldly. I’d rather talk to seagulls (at the home in Malibu she shares with her two young daughters). I’d rather be left alone and walk about the beach picking up odd sticks of wood. But it’s rather hard to take Hollywood by storm by staying out here at the beach.” Although “Dynasty” is enormously popular in England, the world of nighttime soaps is entirely new to her. In England, she appeared in stage plays and several EXEC-IJ-CIJT Hairstyling and Barbering Ltd. introduces Treasa Egan Our New Barber Treasa welcomes all her friends & clients to call on her at Exec-U-Cut PERM SPECIAL 30% OFF Offer good till Feb. 15/86 108A 1669 Victoria St. Call 563-8055 (Next Door to Radio Shack) films and BBC shows. She first received wide notice when she played the title character in a 13-part series called "Connie.” “It was a political show about whether a small person can make it economically in business. The scripts were desperately literate — and easy to learn compared with the scripts I’m pondering over here in America. But I’ve been muddling my way through.” Outside of her heavy workload (“I can’t get used to that part of America”), her only other complaint about working on “The Colbys” is stated emphatically: “We don’t have Nolan Miller!” It seems that the fabulous costume designer is too busy working on “Dynasty” to work on its spinoff as well. “Although he does do Barbara Stanwyck (Constance Colby),” Miss Beacham admits. ”l love it. There he is, all 6 feet 5 inches of him, and she’s all of 4 feet 8 inches, and she’s got him spun around her little finger. I miss Nolan desperately.
