In an interesting reversal of the usual branch office pattern, the computer firm is opening an office in the Lower Mainland. It was just five years ago that former high school principal Bob Viergever made a career move that saw him open a computer outlet in Prince George. At about the same time, Dr. Abe Abraham, a Prince George surgeon was developing a computer program for use in his own office. Known as the Phoenix Program, it is marketed by Computime. Computer hardware, training and backup servicing are provided by Viergever and his competent staff. "When computerization of doctors’ offices (for medical billing) was ordered by the government last year, the Phoenix Program was a natural progression," says Viergever. “Now 90% of local doctors are using the Phoenix.” Af , l Computerized medical billing replaces the time-consuming manual process that involves sorting and mailing billing forms to Victoria and waiting for government verification. Free from this clerical chore, the staff gains valuable time which may be devoted to other phases of patient care. Recently, the Lion’s Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, recommended its doctors use the Phoenix Medical System. To be selected from the great number of similar programs available speaks; very well for the locally produced program. To provide^ service for the expandingi lower mainland client base, three people have been hired for the Sanyo computers used with the Phoenix Medical System which in addition to billing also allows doctors to computerize patients’ medical files. Computime is more than just a retail store - it’s an P.’JftlU jitmil i Diiia «3iiir.H -{Jfi i office automation centre. Another line of software aimed at professionals will be introduced later this year. With an eye to changing and aiding office management, new peripheral computer options will be available sometime during the summer. In the short space of five years, Computime has done very well indeed. In spite of the depressed economic climate at the time of opening, Computime has shown exceptional growth. Annual sales, initially less than $500,000, are expected to exceed $3 million this year. The past two years have seen more than six times the volume of the initial year. Sales manager, Jack Stevens notes, "we have the most diverse lineup of any company, ranging from games to business computers. “A lot of credit is due our flagship line - Panasonic typewriters, printers, copiers and facsimile machines.” Soft-spoken Bob Viergever Computime staff: Back Row L-R - Bob Viergever, Jack Stevens, Judy Plgott, Bill Turgeon, Yvonne Salewskl, Debbie Turgeon, Diane Ross, Greg Lewis. Bottom Row L-R - Len Grayson, Jay Holdner, Simon Cowburn. makes this observation, "much of our success is due our service approach. We do business from that standpoint. Having on-site training facilities makes a difference in office automation. As does our fully staffed and stocked service department." Computime, 350 Queensway Street in Prince George, has a lot to celebrate. Fifth Anniversary Specials will be offered throughout the month of March with additional savings available each weekend.
