6 — PLUS! — Saturday. December 2. 1989 Goodbye, city life by BEV CHRISTENSEN____________________________ Five years ago Sally and Ian Wilson abandoned their high-stress jobs in Vancouver to spend 14 months living in the log cabin they built beside a lake in northern B.C. After they were flown into the wilderness lake 120 miles from the nearest settlement at Iskut, about 575 km northwest of Prince George, their first task was to build their cabin and begin gathering wood for the winter. "We thought, after the trip, we'd go back to living in the city but something happened along the way and we now make our living by writing and giving slide shows to children and seniors to pay for a grubstake so we can spend the other part of the year in the bush,” Sally said The time they spent at Hottah Lake became a bestselling book, Wilderness Seasons published in 1987. The book now is into its fifth printing. They were in Prince George recently to introduce their second book, Wild and Free — Living With Wildlife in Canada’s North, which has already sold 8,000 copies. In the book they describe the trips to the Spatsizi Pla- O* Sally and Ian Wilson find the the noise and confusion of city life is difficult to cope with after they’ve spent several months living in the wilderness. photo by Brock Gab e NO JOB TOO Bl OR TOO SMALL - WE DO IT ALL - - Sales - Service - - Free Estimates -- Installation - , Lots of Free Parking 1586 Ogiivie SL 563-10591 > i Remember We always have FREE FINANCING FOR 6 MONTHS O.A.C.
