The Prince George Citizen, TV TIMES - April 21st, 1990 - 45 FINE TUNING By BOB REMINGTON Rock! Watch me pull a series out of my hat! Thirty years after watching them as kids, adults are once again discovering Rocky and Bullwinkle. The flying squirrel and his dimwitted-moose sidekick, created by Jay Ward in 1959, air week-nights on YTV. The cable youth channel has resurrected the hip duo as part of a smart programming strategy which offers a schedule that appeals not only to kids, but to their baby-boom parents as well. Rocky and Bullwinkle, with their Fractured Fairy Tales and Bullwinkle’s Poetry Corner, have always had a sassy adult appeal. Many of the jokes that once went over the heads of today’s boomers now have them chortling away as parents. “Rocky and Bullwinkle" originally ran from 1959-61 as “Rocky and His Friends." The pair battle Mr. Big and his two henchmen, Boris Badenov and Natasha, with Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman also appearing with their time- travel device, the Wayback Machine. On Sunday, April 22, CTV airs The Earth Day Special, a two-hour environmental- awareness show featuring a slew of Hollywood celebs, including Ted Danson, Michael Keaton, Kevin Costner, Robin Williams, Michael Douglas Ted Danson and Meryl Streep. Everybody, of course, wants to be 9 CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTRE seen as a good guy in the battie to clean up the environment. But Danson, founder of a clean water organization in the United States, doesn’t claim to be a saint. "I don't know the answers to all of this," admits Danson, "but I know that as long as I don't make a stink and don't want a change, things will continue going the same way." The special marks the 20th anniversary of the first Earth Day, considered to be the birthdate of the modern environmental movement.
