The cruisers won the encounter by three matches to one. This hand, however, was a triumph for the locals when a passenger slipped in defense.
South valued the hand as too strong for a 15-17 point one-notrump opening hid. Once North could raise South brushed aside
West’s interference and jumped to game.
West’s opening spade lead was taken by East with the ace and the defender shifted to a diamond. Declarer won on the table in order to lead the ten of hearts. East covered with the queen, declarer's ace won and a spade was ruffed in dummy before a trump was conceded to West’s king. Since East was now out of trumps, declarer’s only other loser was the ace of clubs.
Suppose East had never heard of the adage about covering an honor with an honor and had chosen instead to follow different advice: “Second hand low.’’ Rather than covering the ten of trumps with the queen, observe the difference had East followed with the six. If declarer runs the trump, West can win with the king, cash the ace of clubs and revert to diamonds for East to ruff—down one.
It’s as futile for declarer to rise with the ace of trumps and continue the suit. Now the defenders will score two trump tricks and the two black aces to defeat the the enemy game.

The Fort St. John Forest District is inviting proposals to perform Planting Administration Contract SC95DJO-001 for approximately 3.6 million seedlings. This work includes the implementation of the Ministry of Forests' 1994 planting program consisting of two spring contracts PL95DJO-001 (±1.7 million seedlings), PL95DJ0-002 (±1.4 million seedlings), and one summer contract PL95DJ0-003 (±550,000 seedlings) for the Fort St. John Forest District.
Mandatory office viewing will be at 0900 hours MST on Monday, December 20, 1993 at the Fort SL John District Office. Deadline for submission of proposals is 1500 hours MST, January 14, 1994 at which time proposals will be opened and evaluated.
Contractors must have successfully completed one planting administration contract of 750,000 trees within the past two years.
Contractors must not be a planting firm or affiliate of a firm contrac’ed tor any of the District's 1994 planting cont'acts.

Notice is hereby given that Public Hearing with respect to Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1438 will be held:

The purpose of proposed Bylaw No. 1438 is to rezone part ot the S 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of DL 4592, C D. excluding Plan H679 and Pci A from Rural 2 (Ru2) to Rural 4 (Ru4). This amendment is proposed in order to allow a second dwelling on the property for the applicant's daughter. The applicant is Charles Payne. The property is located on the west side of the Cariboo Highway south of Red Rock.
At the public meeting, all those who deem iheir interest in land to be affected by proposed Bylaw No. 1438 shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard or to present written submissions.
