Johal draws crowd ABBOTSFORD (CP) — A man recently acquitted of first-degree murder charges faced a mob of reporters and threatened to break TV cameras Friday after a court appearance here. Bindy Johal was in court to fix a pretrial date on assault charges stemming from a fight at an Abbotsford nightclub last weekend. He faces charges of breach of bail conditions, two counts of assault causing bodily harmd and two counts of assault with a weapon. As he left the courtroom, reporters crowded around him. Johal swore at the reporters and threatened to break the TV cameras if they didn’t stop taking pictures. He was released from custody earlier this week on $100,000 bail. A condition of his bail is that he only leave his residence in the company of his mother. Skydiver’s second chute didn’t open VERNON (CP) — RCMP released the identity Friday of a two-time world skydiving champion who died when a second chute failed to open while he was filming a soft drink commercial. Rob Harris, 28, of Redondo Beach, Calif., plunged to his death Thursday while performing an aerial stunt with other skydivers for the ad at Vernon regional airport. RCMP said his second chute failed to open in time. In the stunt, four skydivers jump out of an aircraft from an altitude of 2,500 metres. Each pulls his main chute, cuts it away and activates a second chute. John Smith, a veteran local skydiver, said Canadian Sport Parachute Association regulations re- quire a skydiver intending to cut away one chute and open a second to have a third parachute in reserve. It was not immediately clear whether Harris had a third chute. Harris was the 1994 and 1995 world champion sky surfer. While in free fall, sky surfers perform aerobatic manoeuvres on a board similar to a snow board. Two companies involved in producing the commercial, Propaganda Films of Los Angeles and Treehouse North Productions of Toronto, refused comment. RCMP said they would ask the Canadian military to help in investigating the accident. An autopsy on Harris was performed Friday. Just In Time For Christmas!
