Rob Biron/Free Press Raising money for Rwanda By STEPHANIE CURTIS Prince George Free Press Prince George artists gave the gift of music in a benefit concert for Rwandan refugees. “This is one way I could use my talents to help. I always wanted to be a doctor, or a nurse, so I could really fix things,” says Heather Campbell, principal flutist with the Prince George Symphony. Ms. Campbell organized the benefit concert, Songs For Rwanda, on November 20 at the First Baptist Church. “1 am very happy with the turnout. We need all the support we can get.” For the audience, this was not only a special treat but also a way of giving. “I was watching the news one night and they were talking about the Rwandan situation...We all have something to give to make the world a bit better, you don’t have to be a doc- tor or a nurse,” says Ms. Campbell. “I just started calling people and asking them to help.” Among the various artists who performed were Sylvia Coates, Sharon Gast and Marilyn Penson, Gordon Lucas, David Sproule, Esther Gunderson, John Suderman, Ian Woodman, David Ghast, Dr. Don Bond and Ms. Campbell.
