A10 THE FREE PRESS LETTERS/COMMENT DECEMBER 15, 1994 STREETWISDOM With three murders in six weeks, are you worried there is an increase in violence in Prince George? Robert Johnston “It’s a northern community with some individuals that can take actions very spontaneously. It seems to be a very active community, crime wise.” Gloria Schaus “There’s definitely been an increase in crime...mostly kids. I feel there should be more activities for them to do. And there should be higher punishments for young offenders.” Brian Caron “Yes, there’s been an increase just like there’s been an increase in the population of Prince George. The punishment should be stiffer for worse crimes.” In Real Estate SUSAN LONG 565-4688 1272 Fifth Avenue Doucette Realty ud 562-3233 Nicole Kerr “It has increased lots, since a great deal of people are moving in. UNBC and jobs are drawing more people. The crimes are becoming more violent, maybe from violence on TV.” FIRST •CLASS*FOR*LESS Stay and shop for $S9* this Xmas. •Christmas bed and breakfast special includes free continental breakfast for 2. •Friendly home-away-from-home. •Stay’n Save Motor Inns conveniently located in four of BC’s most popular destinations. •Beautyrestmattresses, free sports and movie channels, family restaurants, free local calls & more. •Coupon must be presented upon check-in. ♦Single/Double per night basis Valid Fri. Vancouver Airport Victoria Kamloops Kelowna I-800-663-0298 FAXIine (604) 273-9522 Court says Sikh action was right Editor: The focus of my letter of Nov. 10, was on what the Temple Executive got on to do after they took office. Expecting a landslide that had only a ten vote margin victory. My emphasis was on their over-reactions to the reality of the situation that was not to their taste. Mr. Kanwaljeet S. Gill in his letter of Nov. 17 has totally avoided the issues I concentrated on. By passing the points I raised, he has come up with some other points that are quite valid for our Temple situations. In our temple the failure of compromises was the failure of a strategy that provided dominance and (undue) recognition to the few. In desperation, these few backed by their supporters act.ed to strengthen fheir fkfsitiori by * acting on a plan to reduce the membership of the temple in a way that will favor them. In spite of timely letters of advice they acted on their plans that will disqualify most of the existing members. Mr. Gill thinks we should not have gone to the court and ought to have accepted his verdict of the duly elected body. He may be right in his own way -the court btfiertyise:- Sincerely, * b JA.
