Plans for music and good food often also include a reduced room rate and participation in the designated driver program. That’s planning for a fun and safe celebration in welcoming 1996. The Coast Inn of the North will hold a buffet dinner and dance from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the ballroom. This will feature a DJ service playing music for the young and old. Club 770 disco will have party favours, snacks and dancing for party-goers from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tickets available at the inn. Sgt. O’Flaherty’s Pub will have a cover charge and feature entertainer Rob Petrie from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Inn’s Christmas room rate special began in November and continues through Dec. 31. The Connaught Inn is holding a New Year’s party with a full buffet at the Northern Lights Cafe & Banquet Room. This will include party favors, free champagne at midnight and music for all ages by Lightning Sound, a DJ service. Dinner is at 7 p.m. with dancing starting at 9 p.m. and the bar closing at 1 a.m. Admission will be by individual tickets sold in advance or a package featuring two tickets and a room for two at the inn. Esther’s Inn is holding a gala buffet and evening in its banquet room. This includes about a dozen door prizes, dance music by DJ service Shanadine and a bottle of champagne for each couple at 11:30 p.m. as well as a midnight snack. The evening runs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and the inn is offering a room for one or two and brunch for two the next day in its package. At the Holiday Inn, Coach’s Corner Pub will have Tony White and the Heavyweights.The evening begins with cocktails at 7 p.m. There will be a buffet at 8 p.m. and dancing from 9 p.m. Trader’s Restaurant is presenting a night off Broadway. It includes complimentary tickets to a P.G. Playhouse play. It starts 7 p.m. and continues through to 3 a.m. The party will feature hats and party favors, door prizes including a ski package, champagne at midnight and Rockslyde playing country rock. The hotel participates in the designated driver program and also offers special reduced room rates for the evening. Northwood Motor Inn & Pub will have at party at Nelly’s Pub with a live classic rock band, Mr. Ms. This will include party favours, noisemakers and a hot and cold buffet at 10 p.m. The band plays until 2 p.m. The inn staff will call cabs for customers or they can take rooms. The Prince George Hotel is holding two New Years parties. In the 5th Avenue Pub there will be karaoke and no cover charge. It closes at 1 p.m. The Corral, the hotel’s cabaret, will have a party starting at 8 p.m. and going until 3 a.m. the next day. Admission by tickets. The country rock band Bulletproof will play and there will be party favors, door prizes and a midnight buffet. The cabaret participates in the designated driver program, serving free coffee and pop to those persons in any groups who will do the driving. The Simon Fraser Inn is holding two parties. At Bordertown Saloon, which is a blues club, on weekends there will be a dance from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a cold midnight buffet, desserts and party favors. Catfish Blues Band will provide the music. Tickets available in advance at the inn’s front desk. In The Lounge a dinner dance will feature various DJ music with the type of crowd determining selections and a 7 p.m. dinner with steak and prawns and Black Forest cake for dessert. The inn offers a special reduced room rate for New Year’s to encourage customers not to drive drunk. The Yellowhead Inn is having two events. Country rock band Derringer will be at an 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. party at Vivas Country Club. This evening includes party favors and a cold plate served at midnight. Tickets available at the inn. In the Rumpus Room, a games room, there will be a quiet evening with party favors, free pool, free shuffleboard and some snacks. Regular opening and closing times will be in effect.
