Dr. John McKnight will be speaking to a luncheon meeting of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce. He’s director of community studies at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. McKnight will discuss whether we should focus on our community’s needs and deficiencies or on our community’s capacities and assets. Living with ADD can be difficult Dear Teen Talk: My little brother has always been a real pain. I usually feel like 1 hate him. The doctor just said he is ADD and they want to put him on Ritalin. I am scared that it will turn him into a zombie because I heard that is what it does. I want him to get help but I don’t want him to get hurt. Signed worried Dear Worried Seems like you are feeling really confused and worried about whether this is the best thing for your brother. How possible would it be for you to go and talk to the doctor and see for yourself what he/she has to say about the effects, both positive and negative, of Ritalin. We think that it is often very difficult to be diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder or living in the TEENTALK home of someone diagnosed with ADD. We encourage you to talk to someone about this and find out as much information as you can. How possible is it for you talk with your parents and check out what they think about this whole idea? Intersect has a support group for families living with ADD, and you may wish to see if you and your family could access some support through that group. You too can write to us! Just send a letter do Teen Talk to 1306 7th Ave. Prince George BC V2L 3P1. If you prefer to talk to someone in person, the Teen Line at 564-8336 is open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Daily, 24 hour support is available by phoning the Crisis Center at 563-1214.
