THE FREE PRESS LAW NOVEMBER 26, 1998 A7 Airplane pilot who landed on roadway grounded in Cariboo 100 Mile House—The 100 Mile Flying Club has rejected pilot Stanley Webb’s attempt to renew his club membership. Mr. Webb landed a small Cessna airplane on Foothills boulevard in Prince George on November 12 after he says he became disoriented in a storm west of Clearwater on a flight from Jasper to Williams Lake. No charges were laid in the incident. Two days later, Mr. Webb, a one-time 100 Mile Flying Club member, dropped off a cheque to pay membership dues before taking the club’s Cessna 172 and making a daredevil flight over lakes and roadways between 100 Mile, Canim Lake and Williams Lake. He was met by Williams Lake RCMP when he landed in the lakecity, but has not been charged in that incident either. Irene Curry was on the upper floor of her south end Lac La Hache home when she says she saw a plane wing go by the window. When she saw it go by her window, it was passing over top of the highway - above the height of the hydro lines. but no by much. Mr. Webb says he was practicing low flying for ski landings for potential winter rescue flights. “He’s no longer a member of the club,” says president Mike Bliedistel. The decision, made at a club meeting last Thursday, was unanimous. At any rate, Mr. Bliedistel adds, Mr. Webb had not been tested recently on the plane in accordance with club rules. The club has already implemented new security measures as a result of the incident. Regan murder verdict delayed Much to Judge Bruce Macfarlane’s annoyance, the case to decide the future of a 16-year-old accused of murder has been adjourned. Judge McFarlane was supposed to give his decision on the case on Tuesday, after reading the written arguments by counsel. The youth faces a sole charge of second degree murder after another 16-year-old, Tyrel Regan, was stabbed to death in College Heights in September, 1997. Defence counsel was nearly a month late in submitting written arguments, however, which in turn delayed the Crown’s submission. Not only does the accused need to know what is going to happen to him, but the Regan family also needs to know, pointed out the judge. With the adjournments, defence counsel now has until December 4 to submit its rebuttal to the Crown’s closing argument, which was submitted on Tuesday afternoon. But it will not be until January 20, 1999 that Judge Macfarlane is in Prince George again and can give his decision on the matter. In the meantime, the youth’s co-accused, 20-year-old Wade Turnbull will have a pre-trial conference on March 22, 1999. He will go before a jury also on a charge of second degree murder, for 10 days, beginning April 19. ^D/teams PC'S NEWEST ADULT VIDEO STORE Lowest prices ill town!
