Community gets injection of arts, entertainment
   • Cantata Singers are seeking experienced choir members for their upcoming season. Rehearsals begin September 8 for the 30th anniversary season which includes such performances as a sing-along Messiah, an old fashioned Christmas carol sing-along, a gospel jubilee, an anniversary gala and more.

    • The first Prince George Fringe Festival is more than just theatre and performing arts. There is also a companion visual arts show at Art Space (above Books & Company) that echoes the Fringe
spirit. It calls for local artists to submit their more unusual or cutting-edge pieces - paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, collage, etc. Deadline for submissions is August 6. Call 563-6648 for information.
   • The Prince George Fringe Festival is a load of independent theatre from
Prince George and around the world. See original plays, professional actors, community productions, readings, street performers, music and more from August 19 to 22 at CNC, Mosquito Books and Books & Company. For information call lan (564-2208) or Stephen (564-5556).
    • Summerfest will sweep through downtown. August 21 and 22, the annual street extravaganza will clog up George Street with food vendors, entertainers, merchant booths, artists, artisans and more. Show civic pride and enjoy a great day in the colourful downtown.
    • The Prince George
Exhibition is approaching. The annual fall fair takes place at the Exhibition grounds (adjacent the Multiplex) August 12 to 15. It is the largest family entertainment event of the year in the city. It is filled with crafts, entertainment, livestock, and mostly community spirit.
