Identity factor in exposure case The first of three days of trial has come and gone for a 23-year-old city man accused of trying to expose himself to young girl at the Elksentre in January. Brent Adair Habetler faces charges of committing an indecent act in a public place and indecent exposure. Shortly after noon on January 8, the police were called to the ice arena in the Hart to learn that a man had tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into the change room under the pretext of having to show her something. When he tried to expose himself, according to the Crown’s opening submissions, the young girl fled and told her mother. One Crown witness, the supervisor for community arenas for the City of Prince George Ray Boogaard testified the foreman for the Elksentre called him shortly afternoon to report that there had been an “incident” at the arena. He in turn told the foreman to call police immediately. He also testified to picking Mr. Habetler out of a photo line up when he gave police his statement the following April. However, his identification was not based on seeing the suspect on January 8, but rather from seeing the accused at the arena two days earlier, on January 6. The trial is slated to continue on July 18 and 19. The Crown expects to call three more witnesses before wrapping up its case. The defence also plans to call witnesses.
