PG Croatia wins title — finally
Somebody tie a string of tin cans to PG Croatia because the perennial bridesmaids of the Prince George Women’s Soccer Association finally got hitched to their first playoff championship in over three years.
Kirsty Ames of the McQuik Shooters opened up the scoring for the final, putting one past the Croatia netminder during a scuffle in front of the goal. Kathleen Conga then tied it up with a goal for Croatia. The game remained a tie right until the final moments. With little more than 30 seconds left, Connie
 Roch scored for Croatia, sealing their playoff victory.
    ‘‘Everyone was jumping around, but not at the end of the game,” says Croatia player Cindy Choney. “It was right after she scored, because we knew there wasn’t much time left."
    The victory was a vindication for Croatia, who has come out on top of the regular season for three years running, but has been unable to close off with a win in the playoffs. This year Croatia was unseated in the regular season by the Shooters, who stood poised to take both the
  regular season and the playoffs.
    The playoff victory earns PG Croatia the right to represent Prince George at next season’s rec cup which draws teams from throughout BC.
    At the same time Croatia and McQuik were clashing, Victoria Physiotherapy was claiming a conclusive 3-1 win over Myatovic Construction to take the rec division championship. MJ Elson scored one and Monika Makar netted two for Victoria Physiotherapy and Dana Walls made Myatovic’s only goal.
