John McKenzie/Free Press D.A.R.E. Prince George reaches out to our children, our youth, and our entire community. Its effects reach far into the future, greatly reducing the risk that drugs or violence will limit the potential of young people. Please support the D.A.R.E. program. We need volunteers who can commit some spare time each week to help raise funds for the next school year. These funds are used to train local RCMP officers who will be teaching the cirriculum in our schools, and to bring the D.A.R.E. program into more of our classrooms. If you can help by making a financial contribution, or by volunteering some time please contact Cst. Julie Lanctot, D.A.R.E. Thomas won’t appeal sentence for killing dad After a year of waiting, a 28-year-old city man convicted of killing his father will not appeal his sentence after all. Tyrone Thomas was initially charged with second degree murder, robbery, assault with a weapon and three counts of aggravated assault. But he pleaded guilty to manslaughter, robbery and aggravated assault two days into his trial last January Mr. Thomas arrived at his father Wilfred’s Upland Street home after leaving detox around 8 p.m. on December 21,1997. As had happened a number of times in the past, Tyrone got into an argument with his father about, essentially, lifestyles. It lead to a physical fight. The pushing and shoving moved down the stairs to the front door of the house. Wilfred’s common law wife Debbie Makiev became involved, trying to break up the fight. At one point, though even she admits her recollection is 3641 - 15th Av iBK TWO war RADIO , i kwood Place S62-4880 www.bktwoway.be. weak, she somehow wound up outside the house. When the fight was over, Wilfred had been stabbed twice. He later died on the operating table. After his guilty pleas, Tyrone was sentenced to seven years in prison on top of the two years he spent in custody awaiting trial. 'When all the time was tallied, his sentence worked out to the equivalent of 11 years in prison. The defence immediately filed a notice of intention to appeal. But that appeal has been abandoned. r CNC CONVOCATION June 2, 2001 NOTICE TO: STUDENTS WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CEREMONY Students are required to complete an application to participate in the Convocation ceremony.
