John McKenzie/Free Phess Harris worth weight in votes No surprises in donations during federal election If the federal politicians were elected on how much they spent on their campaign, Prince George Bulk-ley Valley MP Dick Harris sure got his money’s worth. Mr. Harris had IOC financial contributors from Montreal to Dunster, who donated more than $19,000 getting Mr. Harris reelected. Contributors ranged from $500 from J. Edward Johnson (in Montreal) to $500 from Tilbury Cement in Vancouver. Tom Steadman, Mel Torgerson, Robert Cooper and Edythe Brown-ridge each contributed $500 with many other Prince George residents weighing in with their pocket books to vote Canadian Alliance. Of the three largest earning parties, none had any support from trade unions or governments although the Liberals did receive $4,500 from the Liberal Party of Canada. Liberal Jeanette Townsend’s support, all $26,975 of it, came from across the riding with $1,000 coming from Glen Andersen in Burns Lake and $1681.50 coming from Julia and Andrew McLennan of Prince George. Her next largest political contributor Zack Calogheros contributed more than $1,400. She spent $23,510 on her campaign. Progressive Conservative candidate Oliver Ray raised $3,639 from 14 Prince George residents and businesses. His largest contributors were businessmen Rad Gajic and Dan McLaren who donated $500 each to the local campaign. Mayor Colin Kinsley donated $300 and the only business to donate more than $200 was Brink Forest Products with a $500 donation. Only the NDP’s Mark Walsh received union support, with $3,600 from the Prince George Labour Council.
