B6 THE FREE PRESS ENTERTAINMENT JUNE 28. 2001 Sweet seasons Sweet Adelines reunite to celebrate turning 20 The time just went singing by. The White Spruce City Chorus of Sweet Adelines is celebrating its 20th birthday this year. That is a lot of harmony within the Prince George community. This week they are holding a homecoming reunion for all singers who have been part of their ranks over those 20 years. “There will be a mass sing with past and present directors, a costume fashion show, a video slide presentation, photo albums, memories with old friends. It will be a lot of fun,” says Shar-anne Tagami, one of three original Sweet Adelines still singing with the chorus. The others are Roma Tingle and Maureen Dick. “Outside of the people in the chorus now, we have had 125 people come in and out over the years. We are looking to see how many of them we can make contact with who sang with us between 1981 and now.” Sweet Adelines is an international choral movement with 35 regions and 37,000 singers. Prince George was in existence for four years before officially chartering with Sweet Adelines in 1981. They are part of Region 26 which is all of B.C., Warmup with Prism at Rockfest this year Rockfest 2001 doesn’t start until Friday, August 3 but there is a new feature this year: a Thursday night pre-festival party with classic rock band Prism is scheduled to usher in the three day party in Vanderhoof. Last year we came second in small chorus and the year before that we came first place for small chorus. It’s the overall rating we are really proud of.” People might think that a group with such accolades isn’t open to new or beginner members, but actually inexperienced singers are embraced by the group. All you have to be able to do is carry a tune. The four part barbershop harmony style all Sweet Adelines choirs use is something they teach. Learn as you go. The group holds an annual Christmas concert, attends the regional convention each spring wherever it may be, and they are available throughout the year to sing at functions - quartet, double quartet, small chorus or whole chorus sizes available.
