B2 THE FREE PRESS SPORTS MARCH 28, 2002 your event editor@pgfreepress.com Kbistin Baillie/Fbee Pbess Silver Tip tourney goes this weekend The Silver Tip Archers will be hosting the B.C. Indoor Archery Champi onships this weekend. Ted Stern, the tournament organizer and Silver Tip Archers president, expects between 85 and 100 participants. About a third will be local archers. While the remaining will be competitor from around the province. Stern says that a bus will be coming in from Vancouver. And he expects more participants from around the rest of the province. To date about 70 people have registered. The majority are from out of town. Silver Tip Archers will be hosting the provincials again next year since each city to host the provincials does so for two years. The indoor tournament always happens on the Easter weekend says Stern. It is the final main tournament before the outdoor season begins. The facilities in PG are some of the best in the province, says Stern. “We’ve got one of the bet- ter facilities in the whole province. We’ve got the indoor and the outdoor range.” The indoor range is located in the basement of the Yellowhead Inn. The club has been using the basement for the past 14 years. Stern says the indoor range is to help people stay in shape and hone their skills over the winter. The participants are bound to meet someone new during the tournament. Most people will not be put in groups with other participants in the same category. “We like to mix people up so you meet people,” says Stern. “That’s one nice thing about this sport when you go to shoot all over the province you’re put in different spots with different archers and get to meet and socialize and become friends. "Indoor is a means to kept your skill up over the winter,” says Stern. Registration will take place on Friday night and arrows will begin flying Saturday morning.
