Lectures of -Special Interest Speaker* on Poultry and Other Farm Topic*. -,._ During the latter - part of this month the department of agriculture is arranging to hold n sertes of Fanners' IiLStitute meetings and lectures throughout" this part of the province, fi'oin McBridc to Hazelton. The chief speaker of the course will be J. R. Terry, B.ff.A., of Victoria, provincial poultry specialist. Probably no other man in British Columbia is so well acquainted with the possibilities and problems of the poultryman than Mr. Teri"y, and those who make it a point to hear hi In will be amply repaid. Mr. Terry, in company with other .speakers,' will be in Prince "George, where it is expected a union Farmers' Institute-meeting will, be arranged for either the l*9th or 20th, and it is expected that Mr. Terry will while here give, "In addition to Mis regular lecture, an exhibition or demonstration""in*judging or culling hens, that is, the art of picking a layer from ~among the non-layers. This should be of first interest to both men and women of the city and the surrounding country. Of course these meetings are being arranged firstly for the benefit of the farmers of the district, and it is to be sincerely hoped that they will respond by straining a point, if necessary, io be present at one of the places of meeting,.and while ar-raritft'd for the farmers' benefit, it is that anyone interested will not liesitaU; to attend. .The attend- arid interest shown in these mrs will decide whether the de-parunerrK^' justified in continuing and developihg^this work or whether it should be discontinued, and therefore thosp in charge are more than anxious that the meetings^-be well attended. ^-^ R. G. Sutton, district agriculturist, will accompany Mr. Terry throughout the whole of the district and will speak on "Soils of the District and Their-Treatment," or some phase of dairying. ThC' Farmers* Institute can Till a very important place in the business and social life of any farming community if the men and women of that community will permit it. The advantages of a live farm organization are so obvious, so outstanding, that one often wonders why a perfectly good institute may sometimes be crippled or retarded in its work by small quarrels, small jealousies and a lack of neighborliness. The" time for all that is long-past, and a little interest, a little co-operation and a little common neighborliness mixed in an Institute will do wonders towards the building up of communities that will be.envied by the cities and towns.
